Where is a very good and reputable data recovery company? It wouldn't hurt if they were reasonably priced too. mrs. jed's drive with all of the jedi's pictures, has died.

Data recovery isn't cheap.
Just google data recovery, there are lots of places.

But, they are not all created equal. I'm looking for referrals, of companies already being used is all.

You're looking at $3000 for data recovery. How important is the data? Have you tried using a data recovery software?

I just had the same problem.. I used GetDataBack Data Recovery 2.31 which can be downloaded from download.com. The only problem is that you cannot copy files with the trial version.. you would have to get the full version.. I'm not saying this is right but I had to patch it and then recover my files.. it was important files so I had to do so.. this software was able to read my entire drive.. I'm not saying that this software will work for you but hey, it's worth a shot..
fyi: you'll have to mount your drive onto another working computer.. but I'm sure you know that already.. luckily I have two hd's so I was able to do it at home..

Drive is dead - I've got all kinds of recovery software but the drive has to be running.
And, what price do you put on family photos? So, I've got to find a place that can reputably do the work, and hopefully won't break the bank. But its gotta be done.

Is the drive making a clicking noise when powered? Consider buying an identical drive and swapping the board. Would be a cheaper first attempt.
In the future...backup, backup, backup. I have 2 backup copies of my photos. I think I'm going to make a 3rd and a 4th when I get home.

What is the make/model of the drive? I do data recovery (www.dwfitt.com)and if I'm unable to recover anything I don't charge any fees. If the drive is toast and I can't recover anything then I can either throw it out or return it (at your expense) to you.
Since you're a member of RFD I'll give you a real sweet deal on the job; I work quick and cheap. I can also provide references if needed.
Identical thing happened to me and I was able to get 90% of the pics back, mostly newer ones barfed on me and were garbled up.
Email me if you want to talk.
