Can you imagine how things will go in the console wars now?

XBox 360 - 8.5GB of space
Nintendo Revolution - 4.7GB of space
Playstation 3 - 25 to 100GB of space!!

Imagine how many levels of Tony Hawk you could stick on one of those babies?

Imagine putting every square soft game EVER MADE on one of those babies (yes, ALL FINAL FANTASY, Xeno Gears, and everything!).

You could fit Starwars Episodes I, II, III, IV, V, and VI on one disc, and still have extra room left over to fit in all the parodies ever made, all the related video games ever made, and enough language tracks to satisfy a dodecahedra-lingual person.... and all the video would be awesome quality too!

That's 4 layers in total for 100Gigs.
SONY says that it can add upto 8 layers to push the Max. holding capacity of single Blu-Ray Disc to 200Gigs ....

And after 8 layers comes Holographic technology, which is around 20 layers I believe. Maxell already has WORKING PROTOTYPES of this technology, both media and drives!! :cheesygri

Do you guys actually expect developers to provide this much content?
They're rushed enough to even finish a game at this point.
I wonder when Blu-Ray movies will even be released.
Kudos to Sony though for thinking ahead but if they launch in Spring next year (very doubtful), I doubt they can get mass-manufactured-priced drives based on the combo standard that's still not even formally finalized.

I think (or hope) most developers are going to be using real-time cinematics next generation, so if a game does take up 100GBs (which I doubt any will... maybe a SquareEnix RPG with full voices for everything :P) it will be mostly for the textures and voices. I can't even imagine how 20GB of high resolution textures will look like in a game. :o

PS: I hope Blu-ray wins the format battle that is going on right now.

They're combining both techs, the talks are still ongoing.

Yeah, I know; I meant that I hope the Blu-ray technology wins overall (take most of the Blu-ray tech while maybe just taking some bits of the software side of HD-DVD or something) when/if they do decide to merge the formats. ;)

Actually the Max capacity of a DVD is 8.5, so that figure is closer to 800 GB, More @ News.com (http://news.com.com/Iomega+aiming+for+800GB+DVDs/2100-1041_3-5720359.html?tag=nefd.top)

You're wrong, Revolution will be using DVD9 as well, so it has the same capacity as Xbox 360 disks

Sounds cool but my problem with it is they're justified to charge an arm and a leg for such compilations and I don't wanna be paying $300 for a disc that includes Unlimited Saga on it

there is competition, they will think twice before charging ridiculous prices.
