What's wrong with Lindsay Lohan?
She needs to develop her career.
Look at Julia Stiles in Bourne series. She was doing all these teen movies.

Lindsey Lohan has yet to put on a performance worth mentioning. I'm enamoured by Scarlett Johannson; she's absolutely adorable and has more acting chops in her pinky than all of Lohan's sillicon put together.

M:III is going to be another big budget disappointment, unless they can recreate the M:I feeling.

man... lindsay lohan blows.
whats up with these young chicks that cant act and sleep with very old men and then try to make singing carreers and have serious attitude problems?

i am not a fan of them, although i used to think hilary duff was alright until i saw a documentary on her and how shes a *****.

money goes straight to your head.

You mean the feeling of confusion for 2 hours followed by the 1 hour after of WTF? Plus both movies were a joke, there was no team effort.

Lohan with Cruise...maybe she will be his cousin or daughter...but that is about it...meh, who cares...

Maybe Cruise is checking out the next generation of chicks to conquer so he got Lohan a part in the movie. You know that Katie will be dump once he "marries" her and finally gets to home base.
Tom likes 'em really young.

I will wait for the DVD on this snooze fest. Not a big fan of movies with Cruise in it, except for maybe A Few Good Men, but that was because Jack carried the movie, it was good inspite of Tom's bad acting.

.......there was a documentary on Hilary Duff????
A couple I think. She's a well oiled marketing machine. A lot more famous than one would think she deserves based on her limited acting/music resume.

Lohan's not that bad. She's like what Kurt Russell was 30 yrs ago-the perfect fit for Disney movies aimed at 12yr olds. Nothing wrong with that, and I think she's done a good job with them. Well suited for MTV awards, not Academy awards.I think she's kind of hot in a girl next door kind of way, but like Britney and Jessica, relies a lot on makeup, hair and hot outfits.

I like the MI series, looking forward to the next. IMO, its been a long time since Tom Cruise had a movie that was absolutely horrible which is a pretty good track record for a Hollywood "action star".

Lindsay Lohan was great in The Parent Trap and Mean Girls - I'd rather see her than the overused undertalented Scarlett Johannsson...

Also, I hope they go with the classic "mission" story structure again, like John Woo did in MI:2 - the first movie was lame - no mission, whole team killed, spy/counterspy foolishness... blech...

It's just a publicity stunt..I figure they'll end it after both of their summer movies debut. Maybe next year we'll see Cruise with Lohan until MI-III premieres.

It's an endless cycle...sick how they try to get into the spot light in order to fuel the box office.

MI1 was great... de Palma did a good job.

MI2 was just annoying... fricking John Woo... I swear, they do the stupid "microchip/rip off face mask" thing like 20 times in the movie.
Not to mention the doves... everytime there's a slow motion showdown, doves fly in the background.

Not sure how I feel about JJ Abrahms though... I mean, Alias can get a bit annoying at times.

'Mission: Impossible 3' Production Set For China
[Monday, July 18th, 2005]
Mission: Impossible 3The production of Mission: Impossible 3 is set to move to China, according to Variety.

The project is reportedly set to shoot for up to a month in Shanghai in November. The film's climactic final scenes will apparently be shot in the cultural capital of China. A fair proportion of the pre-production work will also be done in the country.

"I know that they've had issues about a helicopter, but I simply cannot believe that the Shanghai authorities will not move mountains to make sure that this film happens on their turf," said a China-based production executive.

Say, did you see that great new movie - The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180000)? It's truly an awesome movie about this guy called Mark Bittner... haven't heard of him? Well, if it was a movie about wild parrots starring Tom Cruise, you surely would have, and probably seen it long ago.

All publicity is good publicity...

I was disappointed with both the previous movies. I watched the original with Peter Graves, Martin Landau, et al in the 70s. It was a great show.

The movie does not do it justice.

The third one will probably be just as bad or worse. Not even worth the DVD rental or the bandwidth on BitTorrent.

Well the second one was all action and no story. The third one however, is a mixture of both (according to early buzz). J.J. Abrams is great at mixing together action and drama as seen on Alias and Lost, so this should turn out to be the best of the three movies so far. You can also bet your bottom dollar that all theatres will be jam packed with weiner kids when it opens (especially at metropolis and riverport in Vancouver and the Paramount 13 in Toronto).

Unfortunately, the third Mission Impossible movie sucks as bad as the first one.

It's all over the place. But, the good news is that it kicks off with two great (sub-)missions. If you want a 100% positive experience with this movie - at all costs, leave the theatre at the one hour mark of this production, just after the agent rescue mission and the Vatican mission. After that, it's straight down the toilet for this puppy. The key mistake, again, as with the first movie in the series, is stay away from IMF headquarters - the less said about that organization, the better - Okay? Seriously, it just brings the whole brilliant formula from the TV series down. One really great mission makes a movie. Receive the mission, assemble the team, execute the mission, extract the team. Mission accomplished. (PERIOD.) Forget all the spy vs. spy thing - that's Bourne material or Grisham stuff.

But, like I said, the two initial missions are fun, things do blow up real good, there is closure - but then the whole freakin' enterprise derails and crashes in 10 different directions, until it comes to a screeching (and pointless) halt.

Tom's fine as an actor, as always, but I certainly expected more from him as a producer.

Thumbs down on the whole thing, though you can save it by leaving at the end of the first hour.

I've made up my mind - the movie is not good. Too bad they couldn't have had a real director like David Fincher, who was originally scheduled.

I don't buy the media stuff about Tom Cruise - it sounds like sour grapes/religious persecution from the powerful pharmaceutical cabal. I've always liked Cruise's performances.

Hey, I've always liked Cruise's movies too. It's a bit bewildering to me that Cruise's movies all of a sudden get a bad rap because he's received some bad press. I grew up watching Top Gun and thought it was just one of the coolest movie ever. Now that I've matured a bit, I still love Top Gun, but appreciate other movies Cruise has done like The Last Samurai.

If you know what an action movie is about, MI3 is smokin'! Its an awesome movie, tons of sweet action/thrill/suspense, minimum plot, hot chicks like Maggie Q, a good theme song and sountrack = a good movie IMO. Just forget about that celebrity propoganda and Cruise and watch it for what it is.

there was one or two segments that dragged a bit but it was fun overall.

crochety old man, cineplex odeon at eglington town center was packed on friday night, all the shows were practically sold out. the same goes for saturday night as well, with showings solling out about half an hour before the movie started.

i've not seen it any cinemas that busy in a long time, looks like the movie industry is going to be breathing a little easier now.

Saw this movie last night.

Theatre was packed despite showing it on 6 diff screens with one starting every 30 minutes.

Nicely paced and lots of action. Didn't feel bored at all and never asked myself how long is this movie.

That said, the action is counterbalanced by the plot. MI3's plot is about as good as a porno flick.

Maggie Q is OK. Nice legs (when she gets out of the Lambo). But the acting is bad. Put her next to Hoffman (in the spill wine scene) and she's terrible.

Definitely a guy movie. Worth the price of admission ($6.50).

Saw this movie last night.

Theatre was packed despite showing it on 6 diff screens with one starting every 30 minutes.

Nicely paced and lots of action. Didn't feel bored at all and never asked myself how long is this movie.

IMO, the best in the series, followed by the first, Woo's take on it was pure crap.
When I was at the theatre everything was sold out up until the 10:30, which my buddies and i had to wait over an hour for.

I have just watched MI3. Not sure where the actions are. MI2, at least, had a bike scene. Mi3 has actions that you will forget tomorrow.

The biggest mission impossible was supposed to be in the China Bank building. Well, there was nothing except a yell from Cruise saying he can't make it to the top. Which piece of action really impress you in Mi3? I can't think of anything.

Which "mission" is really "impossible" in Mi3?
Rescue mission was simple. Similiar to Alias.
Capturing the bad guy was simple too. The most complicated part of that was to stop the traffic.
Getting Rabbit foot was not shown.

Here's a copy of Richard--X's review from his misplaced (and subsequently locked) thread in Off Topic:

I saw mission impossbile 3 yesterday and it turned out to be one of the most boring and plotless movies I've seen yet. Well, to be fair only the first half of the moive was crap, the other half was tolerable. I actaully fell asleep twice during the first 45 mins of the movie, only to be awakened by loud explosions. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, becasue there are people who have not yet seen it, but here it is.

Ethan Hunt (Tom cruise) has to steal something from Shanghai called the 'rabbits foot' (I have no diea what the hell it is, they never told us in the movie) in trade for his wife, because some fat guy (I don't remeber his name) kidnapped his wife, because Tom cruise held him dangle him from a plane. And thats pretty much it.

They try to hide how crappy the moive is with loud explosions, gadgets, and other hollywood crap.

What did Laurence Fishburne's character give to Hunt at the end of the movie? It was paper in an envelope and Hunt pulled it out but I don't remember what it was and now it's bothering me.

Maybe it is a leak from the factory then, since often DVD's of movies are often stamped and manufactured FAR BEFORE the actual release date.

I don't think Pacific Mall has an official marketing department for their DVDs.

There is a similar mall in Burnaby BC, Crystal Mall, with plenty of DVD stores, and they don't have a marketing guy for their DVDs either.

If I was a Marketing person ... I'd be importing huge shipments to sell at Best Buy, Future Shop, Walmart & HMV.

The point is: Why pay ridiculous amounts of money for movies in the theatre and/or original DVDs??? Pirates are the best!

Ditto for music and software. Download if you can ... if not ... burn off of friends!

Garry Peters is up for a fight.

The B.C. publisher of fine art reproductions has made frequent trips to China over the years, trying to beat back a continual flood of counterfeit products bearing his company's images.

"I have yet to go to China and see anything that isn't copyright infringed," said Peters, the CEO and founder of Coquitlam-based Art In Motion.

During his visits to China's Guangzhou province, Peters said he collects evidence for a case he's trying to build against counterfeiters there.

Peters said he has seen Art In Motion's images duplicated without permission on everything from posters and coffee cups to hat boxes and stationary.

Those same products are making their way back to Lower Mainland gift shops, department stores and supermarkets.

Peters declined to name local retailers whom he's spotted selling illegal items.

Stores here sometimes purchase the goods from distributors, without even knowing the images are stolen, he said.

It's not just Art In Motion's images that are being ripped off, Peters added. "The broader industry is having a huge, huge problem."

China is by no means the only source of phoney goods. Art In Motion has also pursued infringement cases in several other countries, including Australia, Brazil, israel and Turkey.

But according to a newly established anti-counterfeiting group, China is the world's worst violator.

The Canadian Anti-Counterfeiting Network, launched last week by the Canadian Standards Association and international anti-counterfeiting experts, reported that at least 66 per cent of counterfeit product seized in the U.S. and E.U. countries originated from China.

The global counterfeit trade is believed to be worth more than $450 billion, about the value of the Australian economy, according to Canadian Manufacturers and Exports, a member of the network.

The trade of fake goods is estimated to cost Canada $20 billion to $30 billion a year.

Anthony Toderian, spokesman for the Canadian Standards Association, said the traditional concept of counterfeiting has expanded from simply knock-off T-shirts and handbags to medicines, cleaning solutions, electronics and toothbrushes--basically, anything that bears a brand name.

Metropolitan centres, such as Vancouver and Toronto, are the hottest markets for counterfeit products, Toderian said.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, about $2 billion worth of counterfeit product comes through Vancouver each year. But it's unknown how much stays here and how much is transshipped to the rest of Canada and the U.S.

Doug Fisher, acting inspector for the Vancouver police, said vendors of counterfeit goods can be found at every major mall, and especially in Asian-oriented markets, such as the Richmond night market and Burnaby's Crystal Mall.

In Vancouver's Chinatown, watches with "oK" logos, which bear striking resemblance to Calvin Klein's "cK" logo, sell for $10. Toy jewelry can be found imprinted with Japanese-company Sanrio's Hello Kitty image--although on some items, the cartoon kitten's noses are missing

So why not steal gas??? Go in, fill up, and drive away!

So why not steal food?? Go to a restaurant, eat a meal and walk out!

So why not steal from your friends?? Go into their house, find some money and take it!!

Sounds like this guy is trolling more than anything.

On the subject of people who complain that the rabbits foot is not explained. Well it doesn't have to. The rabbit's foot is known as a "MacGuffin" in cinema terms.

Basically a "MacGuffin" is a plot device that motivates the characters and advances the story, but has little other relevance to the story itself and is left open to the viewer to interpretate

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacGuffin

A more common example of a "MacGuffin" is the contents of the briefcase in Pulp Fiction.

I personally enjoyed the film, yes there were plot holes but I don't think there are any movies out there that don't have plot holes. It's an action movie and it's entertaining. IMO it is the best of the 3 MI films.

I don't get why people complain about Maggie Q. She has like 5 lines in the entire movie. Her only relevant scene is beside Philip Seymore Hoffman and even there he only says 3 words. So you can't compare the 2.

Hunt finds Julia after furiously running for nearly a mile to her location, but they are discovered by Davian before they can escape. Davian activates the bomb in Hunt's head and begins to savagely beat him; he then claims that he's going to kill Julia in front of Hunt, but in a struggle, Hunt is able to push him outside where Davian is hit and killed by a truck. Hunt improvises a make-shift defibrillator to deactivate the bomb in his head and explains to Julia how to use and reload his Beretta 92F, before asking her to apply the defibrillator. Julia activates it, destroying the detonator circuitry but also stopping Hunt's heart. Before Julia can resuscitate Hunt, she is forced to kill Musgrave, arriving with the Rabbit's Foot. She frantically tries to resuscitate Hunt, and begins pounding on his chest when he doesn't respond, which shocks him back to life. As they walk down the streets of Shanghai, Hunt explains to that he works for an agency, and that it is called the Impossible Missions Force...

Back in Langley, Brassell tells Hunt that his actions have attracted the favorable attention of the White House, who have offered him a special position. Hunt says that before he does anything, he is going to enjoy his honeymoon with Julia. In passing, Hunt asks Brassell what exactly is the Rabbit's Foot, but Brassell says that he will tell Hunt when he returns to active duty with IMF. Hunt tells Brassell he'll send a postcard, smiles, and runs off with Julia, away from his smiling and applauding team.

Agreed! I also enjoy the film a lot and I never once look at the time. It was a solid 2 hour action movie (not the best though). If you are a fan of Alias (even if it's only the first 2 seasons), you'll enjoy this one a lot. There's even some Alias music used throughout the film ;)
