DiamondMax Plus 9 Loud

Hey guys,

i just got a 160g DiamondMax Plus 9 HD and it is really loud when accessing data. I have a 40gig max plus 9 and I cant hear and thing when it is in use but this new 160g drive is loud, is that normal or is somethin wrong with the drive?

Mine is the same, although while idle it's pretty quiet. Even my seagate is loud when accessing data as well.

I have an 80gb Maxtor sata drive and a 120gb sata Seagate. Both drives are virtually silent except when in seek mode.

D/L a program to change the Automatic Acoustic Management settings. My DM+9 with AAM set to quiet mode (using ATITool) is quietest drive I've owned since the Barracuda IV.

wow that worked perfectly! thanks! wow, it is so much less annoying to have it so silent.
does it have any effect on the speed of the drive?

A lot, reduce noise to the detriment of performance

Don't know how much performance difference there is... silence is much more important to me.
