Just wondering which store is offering the best deal for this DVD drive ?
Was going to pick up one last time when FS was on sale months ago but FS ended up saying they posted the wrong price on the web......... didn't honor it....
Anyway, is this one still good to get ? Or any other better model and deal ?
(I currently don't have any DVD burner but I heard this one can cover almost all formats, just in case......)

I would pick up a Benq 1620 or NEC ND3250A over the LG. Personal preference.
However, use the search feature. This topic has been discussed many times, including which drive to buy and where to buy them.

Is the Samsung TS-H522U good as well ? It is on sale at $59. So, it may not have the same features as the LG, but pretty cheap !

To answer your question, you can get the LG for between $60-65, but this depends on your location which you didn't post.

The Benq 1620 is $57 from here (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=12651&vpn=DW1620-BK&manufacture=BENQ&promoid=1047) right now, shipping is $6 and no PST if you live outside BC.

Picked up the LG after my Benq 1620 died. So far no complaints. However, it's writing quality is not as good once you start burning faster than 8x...see Digital Dolphin's review at cdrlabs.com.
Was also looking at the NEC but noticed that it's writing quality with the Maxell's wasn't too great and I have a lot of Maxell MXLRG03 media to use up so I passed on the NEC.

your BenQ1620 died?? how was that? burn a LOT of things? I'm thinking to get one, but if it's 'easy to die' then I should pick the LG instead.

It isn't completely dead but I was flashing the drive and afterwards I could no longer boot and sometimes I couldn't even get past POST with it connected. All is not lost though as I emailed Benq and they said I can RMA it...I just have to call in for an RMA number.
Once I get it back, I may end up selling the LG...I miss not having a drive that can do the Disc quality scan in Nero :)
