I just got a new wireless router and a Wireless G usb 2.0 adapter. Just hooking up the adapter, even when there is no wireless network in my area, causes my cpu temperature to jump 10 degrees at idle. The same thing used to happen when I hooked up a wired USB network adapter a while back too. The task manager does not show extra cpu utilization but something must be happening if the temperature goes up this much.
So do all USB network adapters cause this extra CPU utilization?
I have an Nforce2 motherboard that supports USB 2.0 no problem.
