My main pc, which is pretty welfare, keeps on crashing...
the windows/system32/config is corrupt aka, the system registry...
crashed a lot on me last sem, and 2wice in the past 4 days :( - I have a new maxtor hdd and a fairly new graphics card...but the rest of the parts are **** old...like a used 1800+ w/ asus mobo i got back in summer 2003.
I know the pc is dead, and I'm thinking it could be some hardware related issues, but I could be wrong......ne ideas ???

check out the bsod error code and google it... investigate and finde the hardware/software culprit. set your pc back to the way it was before the upgrade to see if it was the new hardware introduced. start with bare minumums and add components until unstable.

Reformat and reinstall windows XP (or whatever OS you are using).
If it still crashes after, then check your HSF. You CPU may be overheating.
Following that the order I would check components are:
1) PSU
2) RAM
3) Graphics card
4) Processor
5) You shouldnt reach here. If so, last bid is to try changing the HDD temporarily. Otherwise, get a new computer!

Does the mobo had a built in RAID controller? I had a a7N (i think) and it would crash and get a similar error that you are getting after 5 days. This was with Windows 2000. I later found that the raid controller was giving the problem. If controller is not used, disable it.

This error is usually hard drive related. Do a "chkdsk /r" on the drive and download the latest Powermax from Maxtor's Website to check it. Better be safe then sorry.

Man... I thought you were referring to like a PII computer or somethin'... an XP1800+ isn't THAT welfare... http://isoul.forwardhost.ca/ForumSmilies/tongue.gif
Probably best to just re-install WinXP on it.
