Do VGA cables go up to 50 or 75 feet? I need a way to hook up a computer to an LCD projector that is about that far away. Where can I find a cable like that, and how much would it cost? I need it within the next few days...

i'd suggest getting the computer closer.

6"+15" is the maximum VGA cable length if absolutely needed.

otherwise, get shielded cables + a booster for a longer length.

just find Male -> Female VGA extension cables, for example the ones sold @ http://www.canadacomputers.com

yup, possible... i have a 50' cable going from my LG 7832NXC Upconverting player to my X1 with barely noteicable difference in image quality...

got mine from http://www.hltechnology.com
also: http://www.cacomputer.ca/prod_show.asp?art_no=2C5522J

the main thing is look for "UL2919" markings.. it means it is certified to be shielded... or something like that

Canada Computers has 10' M/F extension cables for $6 each (and apparently in stock here in Mississauga)... Can I put 5 of them together without a significant drop in the signal quality?

TigerDirect also has 50' cables on their website, but I don't know if they'd have them in store. And it's a little far to trek out to Markham just for that.

I use 2 25ft cables from my computer to my projector.
Just don't get the thin crappy stuff, get the thicker black stuff.....

Really bad idea to use that many cables... each join is a point where the signal can reflect, so you'll end up with a VERY badly ghosted image.

If image quality important, I'd side with Sonick's advice.

I use a 60' one
I got it when I got my home theatre customly set up with my local home theatre store
They designed my place with the best solution possible, ie the distance between the speakers etc and got a Infocus 5700 projector along w/ some speakers and sub

yup... exactly what I do... 50FT+ cable is WAY too expensive.. just connect 2x25ft cable together... cost like $15 each instead for $60+ for one 50+ cable. I get my cables from compusmart.com, very cheap due to my business account with them. :)

At school this is what we did:

VGA > RCA Adapter
RCA Adapter > Video Control Box
Vid Ctrl Box > 60' RCA Cable
RCA Cable > VCR (not sure why Geoff did it this way)
VCR > 2nd RCA Cable
2nd RCA > Projector

and you'll lose SO MUCH video quality going from VGA to RCA

I was the only person who noticed degraded video quality - until one of the projectors started getting lines across the projection and ghosting

did you actually compare it to a direct connection between the projector and the source with a VGA cable?

VGA video quality is many times greater than RCA. Its like getting HDTV and hooking it up using an RF cable.
