hi,
ive gotten a lot of dead pixels before from my X31's keyboard touching the LCD when the lid is closed
some spots of the keyboard touches the LCD panel and also the trackpoint leaves a visible mark on the screen as well
the one spot which physically damaged the screen the most was the raised plastic to the right of the right mouse button
i have had the screen replaced by IBM 2 weeks ago
but now it is happening again
everything is screwed in tight and everything seems to be fine so i dont understand why it is doing this
is this a design flaw?
is it happening to another X31 owner?
please help
thank you

i'm not too familiar with the X31 series but I've seen this a lot especially with the older 600 series models. Which is why it was addressed and has been improved with the newer T series model.

I always put a piece of cloth between the lid and keyboard when I am carying my laptop. I don't know how well it prevents the problem, but hey, I've never had the problem!

One important thing to look out for is the carrying case you may (or may not) be using. Some of these cases can cause pressure on the laptop screen especially if you load the bag up with accerssories and the power adapter. Just make sure your carrying case isn't jam packed and if it is, make sure to keep pressure off the screen area.

You can look into buying a screen protector for laptops... not sure how much they will help since i've never used these myself but you can find these on eBay.

i think in this case, it is the pressure that is hurting the screen
not really any physical scratching going on
so a screen protector wouldnt help
i think chris647 is right
ive gotta start looking into protecting my laptop better because i think it is the case now that i have that is causing the problem
it is sort of a sleeve
but ive always thought that the case had protected the laptop well when i put the case in my backpack
i guess from now on, i should carry the case seperately which is dangerous for someone travelling to surrey for certain days of the week

Just so we all know, what kind of case do you have?

My Dell used to have all these KB marks on the screen. It didn't cause any dead pixels but it was definitely a design flaw. I suggest putting a cloth in between and getting a better case. If you hold the laptop wrong when closed, you may also be squeezing it too tight :)

I've got a T41 and it's got the exact same problem...its definitely a design flaw, and has nothing to do with what sort of weight you are putting on the lid of your laptop. I've opted out for the thin-piece-of-cloth solution, which also keeps the keyboard in somewhat better shape, as when I type, I also keep it on there, but this whole issue is certainly annoying. I certainly hope they have dealt with the issue by now.
