No PM needed on this one. Sale is effective starting Friday. Staples sells this on clearance for $50 which is BestBuy's pre MIR price so no PM available.
*EDIT* As TheGame points out... Futureshop has an even lower price than BestBuy.

Netgear MR814CN 802.11B Wireless Router
$40 - $30 MIR = $10 (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10022165&catid=19994&logon=&langid=EN#)
Product Features
It monitors user activity with logging and e-mail alerts, provides URL filtering controls, and features Network Address Translation (NAT) firewall protection against hackers. Installation is simple - the Install Assistant guides you through each step and the Smart Setup Wizard automatically detects your ISP connection type. Lighted status icons clearly display network activity at a glance. Free extras include a vertical stand to save desk space and free Zero-Knowledge Systems Freedom privacy and security software for 8 PCs (a $250 value).
Of course, the 11 Mbps wireless technology is designed for the maximum range and is based on the 802.11b (Wi-Fi) standards. Wireless networks allow home users to surf the Web or catch up on some work out on the patio or while watching TV with the family. Business users find wireless networking easier and lower in cost to set up, while allowing staff to productively work anywhere in the office.
With the MR814 Cable/DSL Wireless Router Gateway, NETGEAR extends its line of integrated router and firewall products specifically designed for sharing high-speed internet connections in the home and small office, superior to that provided by conventional NAT routers. It provides protection from hackers while being simple and cost effective.

Hi There,
In the rebate section on the Bestbuy.ca website it says this deal is only valid from April 22, 2005 to April 28, 2005. Has it not expired, or is there another rebate coupon coming out on Friday? I'd like to get one of these!
Thanks,
Alon

I can only go by what's in the flyer I have. It clearly says there will be a $30 MIR. You should see it in online in the morning.
You have to be careful with buying stuff from FS/BB in the wee hours that have rebates. I bought some items a year ago at 1am EST on Dec 25 that had rebates available for purchases on Dec 25 and Dec 26. When Futureshop processed the order, since they are on the west coast, the receipt said Dec 24 10pm. Rebates not valid.

Took me 6 months after 5 phone calls and refaxing twice to get the rebate. Would never do it again, not worth the hassle.

One persons bad experience with a rebate should not scare people off from this deal. This was my first wireless router two and a half years ago and I had no problems with the rebate. I personally know two other relatives who bought this and received their rebates in 2004.
Unless someone has done research, are you even sure that this rebate and the one discussed by jameslinux were from the same rebate company?
And ... btw .... the rebate is now showing up on BestBuy's web site.

Well, if you're lucky to find this at Staples, thats awesome. But this router has been discontinued for...6 months. So all the units should have been sent back to the vendor or destroyed.

In ontario, buying this thing at FS will end up costing the equivalent of $13 + tax assuming the MIR actually arrives. But there's also that tigerdirect 802.11g router on sale with no MIR for $27+tax right now. I know that neither is really *that* much money but I'm really good at sitting on the fence when it's an item I don't actually need at the moment. Which is usually the case with most computer equipment :-)

I got this deal and another deal confused. The MSWorks deal has a valid MIR that isn't listed on the Staples site, but I thought it was the router deal.
THERE IS NO REBATE AVAILABLE IF YOU BUY FROM STAPLES!!

as for those of you who didn't get rebates back from netgear before, sorry to hear that. I guess they mixed up something in the back.
I did get my rebates back though. 2 of 2. Just photocopy everything in case something happens.

Did you flash the latest firmware on it? If not see http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/MR814.asp
I bought a wired Netgear router from Staples a few weeks ago and received the $40 MIR last week for those who are worried about not receiving the MIR. I also have an outstanding MIR for the $30 Netgear G wireless router FS had two weeks ago.

Argh! Just 2 minutes ago, futureshop had an error, posting it at $79.99 - $79.99 = $0. It also posted a $30 MIR, so the final cost was ($30). They fixed it as I was checking out.. :(
LOL. Does anyone know if this has _range_ port forwarding? My SMC router only lets me specify port forwarding one port at a time... :(

It seems that I am not the only one who got cheated by Netgear rebate ploy. I bought a wired router with $30 MIR two year ago and submit the rebate well before the expiry date. I called them 2 times about my rebate after about 4 months waiting. I was told they didn't received my rebate submission. I didn't give up so I called them again. On my 3rd call I was told that they did found the record of my check that they mailed to a wrong address and slightly mispelled name. I told them that I gave them the right name & address and that I would sent them the copies of the rebate and receipt that I made to prove that. They said that they would issue me another check. A month went by and I still didn't get the check so I called again. This time I was told that they didn't have any record of my rebate. I told them what I had been told on my third call that they had found my record and would be issued me a new check. This time the guy stuck to his story that they never received my rebate form and that they couldn't do anything for me even if I sent them the copies of the rebate & receipt. So the guy who talked to me on my 3rd call lied to me. I gave up after 4 frustating calls. I will not buy any thing that has a rebate from NetGear again. I lost some rebate with othercompany before but NetGear rebate was the worst experience I've had.

my router is v3 and came with the latest firmware. what's strange is i turned off my computer before i go to bed every night, when i turn on the computer in the morning, it has no internet connection, i can't even access the 192.168.0.1 router config page, ipconfig shows my computer has ip 169.254.79.81. I have had this router for two days, and this happens every morning...

So the routers in store in Waterloo seem to be v3. At least the one I picked up was. Works great in wired mode and now i'm trying it out with a friend's wireless USB adapter. Everything seems to work fine but I have a question about USB network adapters.
My cpu temp jumps 10 degrees just from having the D-Link USB 2.0 Wireless g adapter connected to the computer. DWL-G122 is the device. This is when everything is idle, not downloading anything. I recall noticing the same thing back when I once tried a USB Wired network adapter a while back. According to the task manager, nothing is using CPU cycles, but USB network adapters seem to be doing something if the temp jumps so much.
Is this normal for USB network adapters? If not, is there some way I can troubleshoot this?
I have an Nforce 2 motherboard.

returning mine to futureshop, have problem withthis router every day.it stops working every few hours, and every morning i turn on my computer, the router is guaranteed not to work, had to unplug it, so this is definitely not a problem related to heavy traffic or something like that. btw, i am not even using the wireless connection, i only use the wired connection.

I'll put in a good vote for the router if people are still on the fence. Two days now of rather heavy bittorrent traffic and it's stilll behaving perfectly. Once in the last two days my computer lost the connection but within 30 seconds it had reestablished it (without any input from me) and was merrily going about it's business again.

Are you sure yours is a v3? I heard other people mentioning that earlier versions had issues.
And yes I have shut my computer down a couple times, for quick reboots after installing something, with no problem. Last night it was off all night with no issues when i turned it back on.
Maybe i'm just lucky. I've only now convinced myself to hack out the UPC and send in the rebate. With my luck of late the router will probably start acting up right after I do that. :(

some of the more recent '05 reviews:
Excellent Purchase, 5/9/2005
Reviewer: Anthony, Calgary
This wireless router was easy to install and I haven't had much down time concerning connectivity. Unlike many wireless routers you can still easily plug in 4 ports to cpu's around the router. I also enjoy the size of this router.....small, compact, and a very sleek design!
excellent value for money!, 2/2/2005
Reviewer: H.V., Burnaby, BC
I got this router after reading the other customer reviews and the attractive price. I am very satisfied with it. Setup was a breeze. The installation instructions forget to remind the user that if you have an ADSL connection like I do with Telus, then you'll need to change the MAC address mapping on the Telus website before you install the router, otherwise you won't get assigned an IP ( = no internet). I use my notebook from about 20ft away from the router behind a couple of walls, and the signal strength is excellent. The router is so compact, sits well on my desk and is quite spiffy! I was concerned that the 802.11B routers would be noticeably slower than the more touted 802.11G. But I am quite satisfied with my Netgear 802.11B router's performance and unless you're a heavy duty gamer, 802.11G is probably overkill.

Excellent Router, 1/26/2005
Reviewer: Dave L, NA, British Columbia, CA
This router is very well built. Installation is easy and took me about 15 mins. I haven't have a single drop in connection unlike my friend's wireless router(other brand). For the price I pay for this router, this one definetely gets ur money back. Signal quality and strength are both good as my house was divided in so many rooms and I still get at least 80% in all the rooms with encryption on. Strongly recommend for people who are using type B wireless internet.
Simple features, but it works., 1/24/2005
Reviewer: Joshua P, Calgary, AB
Simple features: 11 MBPS, 128-bit WEP, but they work really well. I do this as sort of a profession (computer consultant) so I've experience a few different brands (D-Link, Linksys, USR). This is the easiest to set up, only taking me about 30 min to get everything setup, including the WEP security, MAC filtering and other features. As well, it is the nicest looking and has the most informative LEDs on the front that are actual icons instead of just dots under a label. I'll be using this product for my customers with basic needs.
