I wana have a test done with my g/f for std's before we go the next step. It's not cus I don't trust her, it could merely be ingorance on our parts -- I think it's knowledge you should be aware of.

That's smart. Lots of people do have STDs and don't even know about it.
I wouldn't rely on just a condom.

Is there a Planned Parenthood clinic in your area? I've been there before for tests and they were great- very confidential and aimed at young people. They give out condoms and sell birth control pills at a discounted rate as well. That would be my first choice for where to go.

Call me paranoid, but I would rather pay for one than live in perpetuity of fear thinking the needle used was moments earlier used by a junky or prostitute.

That area is full of junkies, pimps and harlots!

that's a very irresponsible thing to say...
this is a proper clinic...and not a quack shop...they properly follow all health related regulations...the location of this clinic has no bearing on the quality of its services

I second that. What better place to get an STD test than a place that has to deal with them frequently?

Now, if you walk into the clinic and its a junkie administering the test, walk out. But cmon...that's tantamount to saying that people living in that area are all junkies, harlots, and druggies...

You've got to be kidding. All clinics use fresh needs 1 time and then they're disposed of safely.

Here in BC STD testing is offered free at provincially run clinics.

Getting tested is a great idea, there's about 5 minutes of discomfort and then you have no worries for the rest of your relationship.

Thats to test if you have gonorrhea...and that's AFTER the pee starts burning.

Simple blood test checks most if not all STDs...

i don't care what anybody says, your fully doing the right thing. It's not about not trusting one another, it's about prooving to one another yoru responsible. I'm sure you can google a sexual health clinic in your area, i don't think any one is better than another.

For a girl, they will give a PAP smear. Basically swab the cervix with a really long q-tip. It doesn't hurt, but certainly not fun. They also test the blood.

If you are really worried double bag it

The people making "wear a condom" and "double bag it" comments really should refrain from posting their stupidity in this forum. Condoms do not protect against many STDs, and those it does protect against it provides less than 100% effectiveness. You may as well be spreading the "oral sex doesn't put you at risk for STDs" misinformation that seems to be commonly believed amongst teens (and adults!).

It is stupid comments about just wearing a condom or how certain sexual acts aren't STD risks that lead to people getting STDs from their carelessness, and then spreading them to others.

I commend the person who started this thread for doing the right thing and getting tested before starting a new physical relationship. It is the mature and responsible thing to do. Any clinic should be able to do the testing you are asking for. Just go in and tell them what you want done. Although they usually won't do the swabbing unless you have symptoms (burning when you pee), you can still request the tests if you want to be thorough.

Too bad ur gf is probably dirty that you want to have her get one done.

Either that or you are, and you feel bad for maybe infecting your past few dozen partners.
=s

Sleep responsibly and minimize your partners.

Another dumb-a$s thing to say! It seems to me that this person is the one who would NOT be spreading STDs around as they are acting responsibly! Now you on the other hand... it sounds like you would "assume" you are clean because you are so picky about your partners and minimize them - hence there would be no need for you to get tested for STDs before you start a new relationship. Pretty flawed thinking! NOBODY thinks they are at risk for STDs. NOBODY wants to think their past partners may have had something - or else why would have you had sex with them? Arrogance and stupidity only get you into trouble.

Good say Tiberius! . It's perfectly normal for everyone to check. You can't only get STD's from having sexual intercorse. Blood mixing between bodies even when needles are being spreaded.

It's perfectly normal, genuine is just taking a safety pre-caution.

Like they say, IF you have nothing good to say, then dont say it!

or in my saying. If you have nothing good to say, then fcuk off!

Brace yourself for the swab test. They insert a cotton swab up your pee pee and scrape along the insides.

Some of the really cool swabs even open up like an mini umbrella for a really good scraping!

The pee pee will definitely sting for a few days.

Peterpan i think you've gone to some really sadistic clinics. A normal test uses basically a small qtip, it stings for about 1 second and then it's done.

They don't test for "most" STDs, just the common ones... chlamydia, ghonerhea, and syphillis... + aids if you get the blood test.

If you're worried about Herpes or Genital Warts they'll take a culture if you're exhibiting symptoms.

You're an idiot if that's your only method of protection from STDs.

Firstly, I am happy to see a responsible young adult displaying concern for a growing epidemic. This is something everybody should make a habit of doing, especially if you aren't in a long-term monogamous relationship. All it takes is once, whether it's via unprotected sex, shared needles, or even a freak accidental exchange of bodily fluids for something like HIV to enter the bloodstream. For those of you who are ignorant to HIV, it is the virus that becomes AIDS. And there is no cure. You (t_ginuwine) are right for taking this step for both your sakes. Taking precaution is all that you can do for yourself and being responsible enough to think of this prior to "going to the next step" is very decent. HIV is by far the worst of the STD's but, not the only one, and it's very likely that alot of people don't realize that they even have an STD. Go to any walk-in clinic if you don't want to go to your family doctor. The test is not as gruelling as some of the people here have mentioned it to be, it's uncomfortable but, worth it! Cheers to you ! :)
