My husband is going to the States soon and needs out of country traveling medical insurance. He had a heart attack in March but his Dr. and his heart specialist will both write a letter to say that he is fine healthwise now.

Can anybody recommend a good insurance company that will cover pre-existing conditions?

Sorry to hear about your husband's ordeal. Try contacting your local CAA branch as they offer travel medical insurance. I think you can even get a quote online.

It doesn't matter if he has a doctors clearance or not. If he has medial problems "related to" his previous heart condition most insurance companies will not pay out. Check the small print.......

Premium for travel insurance varies a lot depending on the health condition. When I checked their premium between major insurance companies like Zurich, State Farm, CAA and major bank, RBC Insurance (http://www.rbctravelprotection.com/purchase/index.html) seems to be the cheapest among them. Make sure you purchase the travel insurance before your husband leave the country. They won't sell it to you once you left.

Do you have any platinum credit cards ? My father was working in China and Hong Kong for several months and didn't have to pay a cent for travelling medical insurance because it was provided by credit card companies. He was either using a platinum AMEX or Citibank Mastercard for this. Hope that helps !

Nope, no platinum CC's unfortunately.

We already have some travel insurance since he travels quite often. It's through T.I.C. Travel Insurance Coordinators. We buy a yearly plan all the time and it's very reasonable (I think it's about $60 for the entire family), BUT I'm pretty sure that they will Not cover any sort of pre-existing condition. That's why I want to buy an additional plan, just for the time frame he'll be down there.

I'll check out the ones mentioned and see if any of them cover pre-existing for reasonable prices. Thanks.
