For all you guys so worked up over going to a good school, or going into a major because it pays well:

chances are, they're more likely to hire someone with credentials.

Pretty neat video... seems like a great place to work.
BTW, is it just me or does the host of the video have really big teeth? (LOL)

i had a friend who worked a co-op term at google.. free food, lunch and dinner, and it was apparently quite "gourmet" as well.
i guess giving your employees free dinner encourages them to stay later.

Google likes to hire smart people, not necessarily those with lots of practical work experience.
They interviewed my friend solely on the basis that he had one of the highest scores in Canada on the Descartes math contest.

Google no doubt belongs in the upper echelon of companies.
That girl probably never got a lot of dates in high school and spent her nights studying; but the upside is, she's working for Google.

its sweet to work for corporations. money is flying aorund everywhere and all they gotta do is keep investors happy. i dont think investors would like this inefficiency. lol but i guess workers are happy = more productive.

How is it inefficient? The relaxed culture of Google and Pixar, just to name a few, are more efficient than it would be if you pounded them with work.
I wish more companies would adopt this methodology, but I can also see the restrictions for companies that aren't necessarily tech-centric.

Its not inefficient. Basic Econ 102. It all started by Ford long time ago. High wages, better working environment, healthy people, they stay with your company longer, thus not much turnaround.

Don't come here with your econ 102 crap.
Corporations are inefficient. Lots of red tape and bureacracy. Can't compare to a small business in terms of decision making and decentralization.

Electronic Arts has a similar philosophy on hiring and their work atmosphere is to die for.

but of course eVeryone has their own methods to success. What works for one person may not work for another person.

I had an interview with them a few years ago before the IPO. The atmosphere is amazing.
It is a very relaxed environment, but don't be fooled. There is a lot of pressure to get results too.
Of course they are always seeking new talent, the Canadian Brain Drain is in full effect.
BTW: I didn't get the job.

I think any high tech company is like that, because they don't want to stunt creativity...ebay, amazon, google, microsoft, etc.

i work at a international PRIVATE software company, not a corporation... and the work environment is great. they emphasize "self-learning" and you work at your own pace. of course, you still have to produce and show that you're doing work, but there's no pressure to it. it's great. flexible time, flexible work hours, if i only feel like working 6 hrs, then i'll work 6 hrs. again, it's all justifiable, as long as you are producing good stuff.
i HATE having a ****** boss or manager breathing down my neck or watching every single thing i do. how can anybody be productive in that type of work environment? if i ever get another job somewhere else, i'd have to find a place with a similar work environment, i don't think i could go back to a 9-5 clock in / clock out job.

They've come to our school to do info sessions and they'd have their previous co-ops/current fulltimers do a little spiel. Oh man, I've never seen so many nerrrrrrrrrrrrrds in my life! Actually, that's not true, I'm from UW, but still it was hilarious. They fit the stereotype to a T.
