Hi...
Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions on getting rid of these critters? I have tried giving them rat/mouse poison.. but that doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone know of any other ways to deal with them? Maybe someone could recommend a brand of poison or something to get them or force them out.

seal any crevices or holes where the rodents are , use steel wool to fill up the area , the wool will cut their tongues which prevents them from knawing in . If u are a tenant , report this to ur landlord or health department .

Thanks for the steel wool suggestion... I saw another thread about insect infestations... I guess it's because it's warmer in general...
Does anyone else have any ideas...??

sticky traps worked for me when i was living in an apartment years ago.
hell, some of them even come with nifty instructions on how to transport and release them back in the wild.
lol. no joke.

Hahaha... that's funny.. they say if you just release them outside... they will just come back to you... you have to "terminate" them.

Thought of that too... but I am more of a dog person... plus getting a cat or any pet for that matter presents it's own problems too... you have to feed it... clean it... etc.
Are there electronic goods that make hyper sonic sounds that irritate the mice (and not humans) to drive them out?

I saw some of these at XScargo for about $15. I don't know how well they work, but someone mentioned them in that spider thread a while back.

If you live near Vancouver - I'd lend you my Jack Russell... he's taken down at least a dozen - yes, we live in rat free environment.
If that doesn't work - move to Alberta - their claim to faim is "Rat-free Alberta"

go to home depot and grab the regular traps set them in places along the walls and then as bait either use kraft singles ( powdered with that ratkiller) or peanut butter.
some times the best way is the old fashion way .

Are insects/rodents a major issue in the GTA or what's the deal? I've lived in probably a dozen different places over the years and have never had any sort of problem like what you guys are having. And some of these buildings were very old.. out in the country, etc.

You're kidding me right? Jack Russells are working dogs that are used to hunt small game, particularly fox.
The only feline things about him is his ability to lounge and sleep all day when he's bored.

Stickytraps are the best. Unless you physical remove them they hardly ever get free.
Too bad a cat is not an option they are also good way to terminate the infestation.
Also you may be able to get those external traps that are use by industrial pest control companies. Look in your local phone book.

Well depending on the environment and whether or not people leave food out... they can be a problem. For me... it looks like the previous people enjoyed the uninvited company and were careless in cleaning.

Thanks for the suggestion... I thought it was some kind of fake device... as some of the things from XS Cargo are flaky.. but it does look like there is a real company behind the product.

Hahaha.. Yes... but then after the snake is done with all the rats... I will have to start another thread on how to get rid of the snakes.

Well.. These must be smart mice... they avoided sticky traps and I also tried baiting a mouse trap... but the creatures just took the food but managed to avoid getting caught in the trap.

Chocolate + sticky paper. Works like wonder.
Plus, you'll catch those critters alive so you can decide what to do with it. Either microwave it or release it in the wild.

Get a company to do it. Here in GTA, ICE will get rid of them and warrant it!

What is ICE stand for? Given the periodic problems.. I am now thinking about getting smoeone to do that... but what/how do they warrant the job? Perhaps you could list a web-site.

I'm fighting rat infestation in my yard! Been catching these little punks for the past 2 month, they are reproducing in my neighbors house and coming to my yard to sight see, problem is I got a dog and I dont want her touching no rats.
My solution:
Catch them with a live trap buy a good one, dont get havahart(POS). Use peanut butter as bait then...
1) If you're soft hearted, let them go somewhere far away
2) Drown them
3) I suffocate them with my car exhaust in my home made gas chamber after I collect 5 or so, then finish the job with some bbs. Make sure u kill them on garbage day or it will smell like hell, thats how they get you after then die.
The rats seem to disappear after a big catch for a while (1-2 weeks) then starts coming back, I figure its a new litter.

Get rid of the stinky rental tenants who probably brought them there in the first place.

i used mouse traps with peanut butter as bait, worked beautifully last year. put them long the wall close to corners and in dark places. caught about 3 in a matter 4 days

I will try that too. You are correct in that I have noticed that they tend to scurry along/against the walls... I have only see one once run across the middle of the floor.
