If I were you...my strategy, which might be too late but its good to know for future PMing, PM right away...dont wait because if you do then Head Office will dispatch a reason not to PM them.
So do it quickly before they get mobilized.

In the past, Staples' PM policy may have stated that the list of stores was for online PMs only, but it doesn't differentiate between onlne PMs and in-store PMs currently. It says:
"We will gladly guarantee our price against the following selected Canadian competitors: Future Shop, Best Buy, Grand & Toy, Office Depot, Corporate Express, Basics, Bureau Plus, London Drugs, Lyreco, and The Brick, Canadian Tire, Office Max, Denis."
This clause is not in reference to online PMs specifically, just PMs in general.
Doesn't mean it isn't worth trying in store...I know some Staples have still PMed in-store against stores not on this list...but they at least may have a fair reason to deny the PM in-store as well as online.
I'll certainly be trying this one...been on the lookout for a good deal on a 1GB SD card for a while...

They will work everywhere. If the managers try to jerk you around like they usually do to me, simply come prepared with a copy of their pricematch policy. If they have trouble reading it, have the number for the head office ready. Usually one call straightens them out, or even the threat of it.
They CANNOT deny the PM provided CC has stock. Be sure to call from a cell phone and have them do it too. CC will lie about stock and screw you out of the pm if their call display says Staples.

I dont know, cuz the price match policy clearly states that the following:
"Show us a lower advertised price on a new identical item from an authorized dealer (list provided below) now or within 14 days of your purchase. We’ll match it PLUS give you 50% of the difference as a credit toward your purchase. (Maximum credit: $50). So, if you were to find an item priced at our store for $100 but $50 somewhere else, we would match the $50 price. PLUS, you would receive $25 towards your purchase."
"We will gladly guarantee our price against the following selected Canadian competitors: Future Shop, Best Buy, Grand & Toy, Office Depot, Corporate Express, Basics, Bureau Plus, London Drugs, Lyreco, and The Brick, Canadian Tire, Office Max, Denis. In many cases, items bought from the U.S. (or internationally) are not warranted by any Canadian manufacturer. In order to save you potential problems, we only sell items with Canadian warranties. Because of this, as well as duty costs, shipping, brokerage, and exchange fluctuations, we do not price match items shipping from destinations or websites outside of Canada."

All you posted was the verification methods that they accept as proof of the competitor's price. It doesn't alter their list of competitors that they'll price match against according to their policy.
And d_jedi...you say that you can PM any local store according to Staples' PM policy...

So much misinformation *every time* there is a Staples PM deal.
I completely understand that people have, including myself, PMed Staples against retailers not on this list (thank you Bell for my amazingly cheap Motorola 491 phone system!), but it doesn't change the fact that they seem to have a legitimate reason to deny by claiming the store is not on this list. I believe that the policy previously explicitly stated that the list of stores was for online PMs only, but it doesn't state anything like that now. I'm not saying don't try...just that you may be legitimately denied according to their policy.
If you can provide proof from Staples in writing that in-store PMs are not limited to their list of competitors in their PM policy, please post it...I'd be as grateful as everyone else for the ammo...

The 1GB Sandisk SD card isn't that slow. I haven't run any real benchmark on the card, but, using the card in my Minolta Z5, it will keep up with recording movies at 640x480x30fps (fine quality) until the card fills up. The Z5 manual indicates that rate is approximately 1.5MB/sec or equivalent to 10x. So, the card is definitely faster than 10x
I had read an article sometime ago that the 1GB and 2GB SD cards from Sandisk are quite fast. Sorry, but, I don't have a URL to the actual webpage discussing that.

Hmm...I PM-ed a staples employee here on RFD, and he told me that the ONLINE price matching policy has the list, but in-store it's completely different? He said that the instore policy is "as long as it's a local competitor within the region" then it's considered Price Matchable.
But then, that's weird, since everyone would be pricematching their things with tigerdirect.ca and all these wholesalers, and then Staples would be screwed for life. But another question then pops up, if THIS PM with wholesalers is possible.....HOW COME NOONE SAID ANYTHING IN THE BEGINNING? I'm pretty sure this IDEA didn't JUST RECENTLY came up hahaha...it's probably been in everyones mind for the past DECADE =)

if u read it carefully, it says any local competitors...
so yes, ur right... doesn't alter their list.... but that's only the list of their online competitors....
so one thing for sure is that there IS a list of local competitors, but i guess it just depends on whether or not ur local stooples has that "other" list of local competitors...
so in any case, instore PMs with "other" local competitors is usually the YMMV case.

I just tried this in store in Guelph ON, and they DO have a list in store here that is exactly the same as on-line. There is no "Other" or any loop holes, I don't know if it's just here that it's like that or not.
I went in the Canada computers printout, said can't match it, they aren't an immediate competitor. I said show me where it says that, he pointed out a great big huge sign, which was just like the on-line one. I then pulled out a copy of the receipt that someone posted and said why did this guy get it and I can't, he was undeterred by this and said it was that store managers prerogative, and he as store manager of a different store, can say no. I then asked to talk to there head office, he said fine, and that got me nowhere either, the girl on the phone was useless. Screw Staples.

Just picked one up at the Ajax Staples location. Went to Pickering and they were going to do it but couldn't find any in stock. They were then nice enough to check other stores and put one on hold at the Ajax location for me. Like always, the immediate reaction by most Staples employees is to reject ("we don't PM Canada Computers"). But manager came over said yes they do, they're brick & mortar so PM it. Big thanks to the OP for this deal...been on the market for one for a while now. :cheesygri

Where, today I tried @ store in McCowan, they categorically denied Pm stating all sorts of reasons, like CC is not listed, their return policy is bulls**t, they charge u extra for CCards, they r grey marketers (Stooples has that word in their pm policy...they (stooples) don't hve any (seperate) store policy...their online policy is blah....even they printed out their whole policy for me..3 0r 4 pages ..even called HO, the girl there blankly told me on phone they don't pm Canada computers, Then I did'nt hve anything to say....She was reading their list of approved competitors from the website policy to me...

My experience... I was at Yonge and Finch in North York, so I checked in at CC there. Yep, one piece 1GB SanDisk SD card in the showcase... $88.
Went down to the Staples at Yonge and Sheppard. Took the same card (worth $150) to the service desk. They call up CC to verifiy it's in stock. And CC says...
OUT OF STOCK!
So right after I verified, someone came along and bought it? :(
Anyway, I should give credit to Staples for at least trying the PM and not rejecting it out of hand.

Interesting, what if you pay Staples cash? It is true CC price is higher then listed if paying by cc, although I think its only 2%? Don't see the amount mentioned on the new website.
CC does kind of accept returns, although you wouldn't want to buy something you thought there was much chance of returning
http://www.canadacomputers.com/cc/index.php?do=ShowPolicy
Anyway, pretty much irrelevant when staples takes returns without receipt to any store ;) Kind of funny, they'd actaully be screwing themself not to take a return with your pmed receipt.
I din't hear anything like that last week, might have to try the other store to see what they say.

Can't staples employee just make it easier to reject a PM instead of making up lies??
Staples: "This is staples and we want to confirm your price for a price match"
CC: "*hangs up*"
Staples: "Hello? Hello? Guess they're out of stock"
Customer: " tries to call himself and CC is tipped off so they'll say not in stock"
But it can also backfire... CC will just make up a ridiculously low price just to screw Staples over on the PM. haha
Nothing in the policy that says a staples employee can't identify themselve when calling in to check on stock.

PM'd staples Hwy 7/Woodbine 6:00pm today.
1.0G cards are kept @ the back, you'll need to go to C/S to have someone take it out from the back.
cashier - we don't pm Canada's computer
ME - how come? i've pm with them before.
cashier - ok, let me check with the manager, cause i've only pm with stores on the list.
Manager (Loretta) - YES WE DO.
cashier - ok, let me have someone in computer verify it.
Computer dude (Wilson) - - NO we cannot PM, reason, they are sold out.
ME - really? I just called 5 mins ago, they still have stock.
Wilson - No they did not, I called richmond hill and pacific mall.
ME - yes they did, RH had 2, North York had 1.
Wilson - no, RH just reserved the last two.
ME - yeah i know, i reserved them.
Wilson - gets pissed off and hides in the office for 15 mins talking with several of this co-workers. (meanwhile I called North York on the free phone to confirm again)
Wilson - finally comes out, talks to Loretta saying we don't PM.
Loretta - shoots him down, say she got an email from head office that they do PM if it's in stock.
........end up getting the PM!!!! IN YOUR FACE YOU LYING WILSON
for those that get the problem "we don't PM canada's computer", i think they are listed in Staples computer systems. CC is not on the Orignal list but they were ringing it through, they need to choose the option "OTHER", another screen will list Canada Computers as a competitor.

I don't understand this. Canda Computers is a local computer store in Toronto. How can you PM in stooples with CC?
At this point you should just say "I don't have to! Your PM policy allows me to PM for a better price. Why don't you follow your own policies?"
If all else fails, buy the item at the regular price from francois. use the item and return it in 15 days. ;)
Reason for return: CC has cheaper price.
For those ppl whose hobby is PMing, you can buy one for yourselves, use it and return it back for the same reason.

wooooottt
i just got it, went to Staples at Young and Sheppard (Empress walk)
just picked one up went to Customer service,
and said I want to Price match it with CC and presented print out from the web she said one second sir and went to check with someone. 2 min later some dude comes back and puts it on the counter and she rings it 65.57
thats it.
WOOOOOOOOOOT
cannot believe ppl go through such a hassle to get PM :)
That depend which manager are you dealing with. From my experience, usually Stooples has 2 different shift managers during weekday since they open from 7am to 9pm. What I found is if the first shift manager deny your PM, try again in the evening which is a different manager...well...no gurantee will work but there's a possibility. That's what I did for my Logitech X-530 speakers for $12 ;)
Good luck on PMing ..

The sales staff keeps telling they won't PM CC cause it's a smaller store blah blah and shows me this
http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Static/static_pages.asp?pagename=help_policy_pricematch
which I believe only applies online non? They won't even look at the *other* option.

Ugh, I've been to 3 Staples stores now to no avail, no one has these on the shelf and claim not to have it in the back, either. Is there anyone willing to sell me one at a price slightly above the PM'ed amount?
If so, please send me a Private Msg. and let's discuss.
Thanks.

Hey guy,
It's July 13th and CC has more stock of the cards.
I managed to price match at Staples painlessly. I just walked in, showed them the print out of Sandisk card advertised on the CC page and they called to verify stock. That was about it, although they did lower the price to $129 (at least over here in Kingston) so the total was $77 instead of $65. A bit higher than expected, but that is after tax so, you're still saving quite a bit.
I also talked to one of the employees and he said recently they've added CC to their list of vendors that they will PM, so hopefully it won't be too much of a hassle elsewhere.
Thanks RFD for the deal :D . Good luck.

I suck at math and don't understand the Staples PM Policy, but would this be a good deal?
Sandisk 512mb sd card @ Staples for $69.99
Same card at Canada Computers for 49.99
What would it come to after the price match?
Is that a good deal?
Or should I just try for the 1 Gb card?
