1. The $122 price clearly includes the $30 MIR according to the website

2. There is no $30 MIR or any rebate offered by Plextor currently:

the hell makes this drive so expensive compared to the pioneer dvr-10* or the benq dw1620

its a really good drive tho, i had a px-708 and its still working like a charm after 2.5k burns, plextor is like the ty of drives imho, but that price is cold, local pc shops seels those for 119.99, so no deal here :(

Actually, Plextor WAS the TY of burning, but that was back during the CD-R days. Pioneer has taken the crown for DVDs away from Plextor; Plex is still good, but they're not the king anymore.

except the PX-716SA took the title back
kicked some ass with its SATA interface to improve airflow in case

also they burn top notch with TYs
better than pioneer 109 i believe

As far as I know, all DVD writers can write to CD-R(W)s as well. Why do people keep overlooking this fact and not taking it into consideration? Not everyone buys one drive only to write DVDs and another only to write CDs.

If you're only going to be burning DVDs, this cost of this drive may make it not for you but if you are also into audio CDs, this is something worth checking out.

I think the rebate offer is over. I can't find the rebate form on the Plextor site at all.

Can you make up your mind what the price you think it's being sold for?

Actually, most power users do, such as myself. I only use my Pioneer to strictly burn DVDs. I don't read CDs, DVDs with it, nor do I write CDs with it. That's what my Lite-On Combo drive is for, and actually Lite-On took over the CD spot with it's overclocking capabilities and one of the few manufacturers that supports 99min CDs when they were brand new.
And in terms of CDs these days, it really doesn't matter what drive you get, the technology is so old that it's pretty much perfect or near perfect by any reputable drive manufacturer.

DVD-Rs are cheaper than CD-Rs now. futureshop has the maxell MIJ 100pk 8x blanks for $39.99. your lucky if you get genric cd blanks for 30 bucks. Plus you can burn more than 15 audio cd songs on a DVD-R.

Well, my friend got one from the same shop 2 days back with MIR and informed me. But I am not interested in this drive because I already have a NEC which does the job pretty good. Hence holding up for NEC 3540 or better.

But if you are interested in getting the drive, you surely will make up your mind and will find out.

edit// Had a reply for those trying to convince others that Plextor is overrated/overpriced/etc but removed it since it was getting away from the point of a DEALS thread.

Plextors are not for everyone. But just because it is not for you doesn't mean it is not worth the price. That's why we have variety.
Are you talking to me..? If yes, then you must have just gotten out of the bed because if I had thought Plextor's are not good or worth the price then I wouldn't have posted this thread itself.. :!:

The MIR has expired now (for awhile), so I wish your friend luck.
