This is a Quebec computer store chain, so not %100 certain if they ship out of province. I normally purchase items directly in store so not sure how much their shipping charges are.

Deal ends today, April 11th.

The regular OEM price for this drive is $103. It doesn't sound like that good a deal unless you can get a PM rebate.

The regular OEM price for this drive is $103.

Where can you get an OEM for $103? In the Ottawa area or free shipping?

I need a HD and was looking at the Maxtor 200gb 8mb ata133 PM with staples for about $115.

staples won't PM OEM drives. How many computer stores have you seen selling retail drives.

1. Maxtor is a brutal brand. Industry LOW @ only 1 year warranty.
2. Sorry, not a hot deal, these drives SHOULD be dirt cheap anyways.
3. Canada Computers has a 200GB SATA SeaGate Barracuda 7200RPM for only $113 right now (IN STORE only, it's still listed as $140 on the site.. I was there yesterday at the Mississauga store), which is the industry HIGH @ a whopping 5 YEAR WARRANTY.

What is PATA?

What is PATA?
An excellent question. PATA is Parallel ATA or a HDD that uses a standard IDE Cable.

So like an ATA? If my mobo is ATA133 compatible, PATA will work?

Thanks,
Max

Yes, it will work. Before SATA came out PATA was referred to as just "ATA" or "IDE".

Isn;t the drop in the Benq drove due to their new LightScribe model being released?

Never go to ShopLCI, they are big cheater. Always OOS. You have to give doposit firstly and then get it a couple of weeks later. I have no experience on ordering online. Maybe better?

This is nonsense talk. OEM Maxtor drives have a 3 year warranty, retail drives have the 1 year; this is the same as Western Digital--3yr OEM, 1yr on retail.

Furhtermore, MaxLine drives come with a 5 year warranty.

im never going to buy another maxtor unless its dirt cheap, because everytime i use them they fail on me ~1 year later. The drives i got suddenly stop responding(loud clicking sound when the drives spin and computer does not detect it). Luckily it was still under warranty and got RMA. Happened to me 3 times so i dont trust maxtor anymore.

2 out of my 4 maxtor drives have failed as well. 0 out of my 16 WD drives have failed, 0 out of 5 seagates have failed. This is a pretty small sample size, but its convincing enough for me to not get maxtors anymore. Besides, I also find Maxtors to be louder than equivalently priced WD or Seagates...

People like you are why maxtor is still in business! I have had all the brands in the past and none, even IBM's "deathstars" are as bad as any of the maxtors I've seen!

PATA is IDE is the old standard ie.. normal IDE drive... the drive will pretty much work in anything, unless its real old and then you will need some bios extender software... You can download this from the HDD manufacturer's website usually.

Wow, what a generalization. So all Irish are drunk, all AMD chips run hot, and all Nissans are rustbuckets, eh?

The DiamondMax series can trace their lineage to the famous Quantum Fireball line. Check the leaderboards on www.storagereview.com . You may be surprised at who consistently tops the charts (hint: not Seagate).
