Sanyo DVR-500 recorder DVD+R/+RW, Costco $259.99

I bought the Sanyo DVR-500 at Costco for $259.99
(used to be around $400 last year, was $299 in Feb, MSRP$450).

Solid as a rock with the Benq DVD+R. No coasters in about 40 DVD's yet. Good quality built and most important of all, recorded shows are of very good quality. No pixelation and jerking of the images during playback ( as seen in an Aspire AD-8091, refunded the next day).

Watching a show while recording it... So you can start the show even though you are in 10mins recording.

The Panasonic models can do it on dvd-ram, and the others on ±RW only (I think)

It looks like the Sanyo might be a better deal since it works better overall with -R/W
.... And the time slip only works on DVD-RAM. That's expensive media

Anyone know of a good place to get cheap DVD-RAM in the GTA?

DVD-Ram is more expensive, though its rated at *> 100 000 writes...

Personnaly, this is what I do. I record on DVD-Ram, then transfer it on the computer with my dvd-ram compatible drive, edit it to remove commercials, put a nice menu.... I never burn directly to dvds... but then again I only used the dvdr for archiving purposes, not day to day operation

Does anyone know if I can use this with the Rogers ditigal boxes? Could I hook it up to record PPV movies or TMN shows?

The Pioneer 220S is at Zellers for $299. It does -R/W and has time slip, have had it since Dec. An amazing machine. I have it hooked up to my Bell 5100. Wife recordes Quincy re-runs to it daily.

I spoke with a friend who works in the Pioneer head office and they said that there has been a major problem with all those units from Zellers because Zellers purchased a large volume of grey market units from the US and people who have been trying to get their units serviced with Pioneer under the warranty have been declined because Pioneer do not deal with any grey market merchandise.

Lets hope you don't need to use the Pioneer warranty.

Interesting....

When I was at Zellers a few months ago I saw a zerox'ed sign attached to these units saying that the warrenty being honoured through Zellers and not Pioneer for the year. I was wondering what was up with that considering their usual 30 only return policy is pretty pissy.
