Just returned from a trip to the far east. Heard that Creative will be having a sale soon. Don't have any other details, though. Maybe it has already happened? I checked the prices of goods where I visited (Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand) and they were all much higher than what we have here in North America (at least for electronics) . All I bought were 2 LED flashlights, very good prices, but gave them away there to people who were impressed!

are you trying to be funny or just like to threadcrap?

zen 60gb has way better sound than Ipod, better interface and works excellent with windows machines...I've heard both units...it's is very very light and at $355 this is a hot deal.

it weighs no where close to 1kg...in fact it ways about 250-300 grams with battery....so do us a favour and go thread crap in the toilet where it belongs. thanks.

i came to the realization that ipod is over rated.
ive heard of more ipods breaking (ie not functioning) after a year or so then any other hd based player.

i have a 3 gen 10 gb and its hd stopped working after about 8 months.

I have a few friends who were in the same boat.

i can vouch for the zen xtra, i bought one on boxing day from best buy for $260 after rebate, the 30GB zen xtra. it's really awesome, never had any problems with it, and all my friends with ipods were complaining how theirs were messing up

The sound quality on the zen xtra is awesome. I can hear background sounds and more detail in music that other players simply cannot pick up. And its not that heavy, certainly not gym/running capable but perfect for commuting or walking to school.

I don't think he was trying to do either - he was apparently just quoting the specs at the link provided.

So, they look and sound better, are more durable, and are cheaper.
My choice is made.

Let's see.. a 60GB iPod photo costs $569. A 20GB regular iPod costs $379.

Can anyone justify why Apple's prices are so much higher (ie. technically.. not "because they can and the idiots will buy it" - because I already know that's true :) )

that's pretty much it. Brand recognition lets them charge more. They're just factoring the cost of their "user interface". As I've mentioned in other threads, apparently the iPod is for people who can't drag and drop to a removable storage device. That's what the extra $ is for ;).

Umm, ok the creative does have better sound I'll give you that. (I have owned both so I know what i'm talking about) iPod DEFINITELY has a better interface than the zen, and they both interface fine with windows.

Also although it is not much bigger than the ipod, it does get QUITE bulky with its case on, which is not the case with the iPod.

And as far as quality goes, I have had my 30gb iPod (3g) since it came out and has been working PERFECTLY since. Same goes with my zen (but i sold my zen, but last I hear it was working fine too) And I have taken both everywhere with me, both have had bumps, falls, etc... and both lasted.

I don't think the Creative has smart playlists or a rating scheme like the ipod does either. I love my smart playlists (in itunes, in ipod). I've been rating all my songs, and I have playlists to play all my 3-5 star songs in random order. You can have weighted rating playlists as well, with a little bit of work.

You would be surprised how much 'small annoyances' can frustrate a person, regardless of ability to work said machine.

Having said that, this is a good price, for what it is.

Zen xtra is better than the ipod, but larger.

It has:

replaceable batter
replaceable harddrive
better sound quality
longer battery life

Product comparisons aside, I'd like to point out that this is Atic.

I honestly don't have any recent horror stories to tell, as I haven't shopped there in years. But, if my previous experience is anything to go on, I'd recommend being cautious buying anything from Atic.

For those who don't know, Atic used to be the 400lb gorilla of Vancouver computer stores. They usually had the cheapest prices and the newest toys. But years of awful customer service soured their reputation, and I don't know many people who will shop there now.

My favourite Atic moment: Guy behind the counter yelling at a customer and calling him a "f*ing idiot!" in front of a store of customers for returning a motherboard that, apparently, had nothing wrong with it.

I'm confused...says 60gb in the title, but under specs it lists:

"Digital Storage Media: Hard disk drive - built-in - 40 GB"

am I missing something?

even if it is a 40GB, still a great deal...just making sure though

yeah i noticed that too but i'm pretty sure its a 60gb cause the sell the 40gb one for $305 or something like that.... plus its advertised on their front page as a 60gb, i guess anyone ordering one should make sure though

that's a very good point about atic. Their warranty service pretty much ends when you walk out the store, you're dealing with the manufacturer after that. And yeah I don't know what a previous poster is saying about ncix, they've been a lot better for me with RMAs, just swap and go. In the GVR, I'd say frontierpc is the best for warranty service among small stores, but I don't like their location or prices sometimes ;).

Atic sucks. The telephone girl there said the F word to me when arrived and asked her why she lied to me about some memory card reader being in stock.

I saw a look-a-like of her on thetechzone.com message board. I asked if she was the girl who works at atic and she dissed me so I'm assuming she is. She likes to take pictures of herself and post it on that message board photo gallery.

If you want to learn more about why atic sucks, please visit this URL: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=atic+sucks&meta=

Haha I just noticed atic was selling "aGear" stuff. Nice rippoff of NCIX's "nGear" name.
