My SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-604 will not recognize DVD-ROMs under Windows XP. I have done a search for a new driver but I can not find one.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried flashing the firmware?

Check the connections (IDE cables/power cables)

Hard to fix these things. DVDRoms are cheap, might as well get a DVDRW

These are the worse DVD ROMs ever made. I purcahsed 80 of them back in 2000 and less than 20 of them worked.

I paid $135 each for them 5 years ago. Get rid of it. Nothing but nightmares. I have not bought a Samsung DVD since.

I wonder why they work so well in the xBoxes

It works as a cd-rom but it will not recognize DVD-ROMs under Windows XP.

It also worked fine until I upgraded to XP (from 98) - pretty sure it is a driver issue...

btw, I did try at Samsung.com for a new driver and the model is not there (too old I guess)..

yep, time for a DVDRW
