Hi, it sounds a silly question. But I just don't know what's the best way to start. How can I find useful information on it? What's the most popular job posting resource on waiter? Newspaper or website? I can only work on parttime.

most restaurants will only hire part time so you are in luck and as for getting a job, just drop off at the restaurant you would be willing to work at locationwise, it really just depends whethr they are hiring when you drop your resume off, but since there is high turnover rate in server at restaurants, it shouldnt be hard to get a job, but whehter you can handle it will become evident early.

yeah just go to the restaurant you wish to apply with your resume in hand. dress appropriately as well, for many restaurants will hold on the spot interviews. now is a great time to look for the part-time job, since the busy summer season is approaching, and full-time workers may wish to take a holiday during the summer as well = open positions.

You need resume for a waiter job? I remembered my friends just talked with the boss and got it. Emm... maybe I underestimated it

ITs true.. I notice alot of servers are like that. Or maybe its because the job attracts usually younger people and younger ppl have a higher percentage of being hotter?

a resume is always nice to have when you are looking for any type of employment. depending on the type of restaurant you are applying too, you may or may not require a resume. many restaurants have you fill out their own application form on site.
remember first impressions are key to applying for any job. if i was a manager and person #1 brought me his resume and filled out an application form to work at my restaurant, i'd be more interested in him as opposed to person #2 who just filled out an application (assuming both applicants have similar qualifications). attaching a resume shows me you took the time and included effort in looking for a job, not just someone who passed by my restaurant and spontaneously decided to apply. hope that helps :)

Most resturants here seldom hire. If you want a full time job or even a part time job at mcdonald's, you better have a really good resume and good interview skills.
Vancouver compared to Toronto is pretty small.

Your friend either:
1. Must have been a good talker
2. Knew the boss
3. Knew someone else who worked there and was refered.
Yes, you need a resume for the job. Cover letters are assets.

Depends on the restaurant & management. Most restaurants have application forms.
In my restaurant, a resume would be a big +. It indicates professionalism & a proactive attitude.
The main function of being a waiter is to fulfill customer's expectations... many of those customers expectations are unspoken. If you want to show you can handle that, try anticipating your prospective employer's expectations.

Hotter people are usually more outgoing & friendly. And yes, those 18 yo hotties will turn into 40yo uggos, so being young is part of it.
Some restaurants have a fairly overt discrimination policy, such as cactus club & hooters. Probably most restaurants have some more subtle discrimination.
Becoming a male waiter is tough. I'd expect to see 10%-20% male waiters in low-to-mid-end dining. The good news, however, is that the industry is very male dominated in the high-end. If you REALLY want to be a waiter, and make sweet tips while you're at it, I suggest you apply to be food-runner (or similar) in a high end restaurant (i'm talking about places that have a serious wine list). Explain that you want to spend 6 months learning the business and that you expect to be promoted to waiter as soon as there is an opening.

Look on line or newspaper. A lot of places are hiring right now. I use to be a server at East sides marios and just did it for about 6 months. I don't know if you have your smart serve because that will help you. Good luck with your search. Make sure you find a place where you will get good tips.

if you do get a job post it, so RFDer can go and give you 15%+tips, if you dont have to share the tips...

good luck, you should be able to make atleast $15/hour in tips on average while you are serving. also try to find places where they keep time "off the floor" to a min (e.g. doing anything other than serving)

:?: No experience, no job; no job, no experience? That sounds like a tech job.
Of course interpersonal and communications skills are a must.
Agreed. Introverts would probably not like that kind of job anyway.
