I'm bored while studying, so I figured I would ask. Would what YOU do in this situation?

1. Went to HK
2. Bought $350 burberry wallet from Sogo (massive department store) on credit card
3. Came back to Canada
4. Never showed up on credit card.

Would YOU call them up and tell them about this "problem"?

Hell no. Let them sort it out. If it shows up on your bill, fine, thats what you expected anyways. If not, enjoy your FREE wallet.

I wouldn't notify...

how long ago did you make the purchase ?

I had purchased Eurorail tix from Flight Centre (over $1000+) and it didn't show up on my credit card statement for 3 months and then finally it showed up.

So just watch out, they might be able to fix it in the long run and charge you accordingly.

(Note: I didn't notify the Flight centre either...)

Awww.. seriously? that happens sometimes? Its been.... > 3 months now, bought it back in Christmas. Really really hoping it never shows up...

And response to the other guy, I would go back and buy some more, but dont' want to push my luck =) (that, and its across an ocean)

I've put purchases on my Canadian credit card in Hong Kong that didn't show up until about two months after I returned to Canada.

I'd say you'll see that charge show up within your next two bills.

Yeesh... You catch a break sometime in life, enjoy it... Cuz you get enough crap.... Think of it as a break in your car insurance.... or drop in gas price.... or rebate for overpaying your taxes.... Whatever your rant is.

That reminds me of cummer. :D Maybe he meant $350 HKD, then it isn't so bad

Back on topic. Overseas purchase (well, other than within North America) often takes its sweet time to show up. IF you don't see it in a couple of months, then you can consider lucky. Otherwise, you are not quite there, yet but good luck

Lets just say I have a girlfriend with expensive tastes.... see, personally, 350HKD is still expensive, but apparently 350Can is still "cheap" by some standards...

And bah! All you people... spoiling my party :) Now I'm all disappointed because I'm imagining this showing up on my next bill... All I'm going to say is that man my fingers are crossed...

Wasn't really a big chance I was going to call this in anyways, just curious if anyone here WOULD call it in...

hahah they prob didnt charge you because they stole all your CC info . that happened to my boss he went to a place to buy more luggage and the guy was looking at him funny so he jokes " whats taking so long what are you scanning my card " the guy jumped when he said that said no no and handed his card .

after a month the card was used in sweden and other places in the world , the lil dude copied his card right in front even after he joked and said he didnt.

CANCEL the credit card and get another one ASAP!

I wouldnt report it if it were a big CC company, BUT if it came from a mom and pop shop, I would....I think..!

Is there a time limit for vendors to charge a customer's CC?
If I purchase something today and the vendor waits a year to charge me for that purchase.. can I dispute the charge?
I thought I read somewhere that there is a 3 month limit.. if the vendor takes more than 3 months to charge the CC after the purchase date then its too late...
Anybody know?

I don't think there is a time limit on when they have to charge you. I was thinking that when the $1000+ Cdn charge didn't show up initially and finally showed up 3 months later (I was so happy, I mean $1000 CDn !, quite a bit of money). I wanted to dispute it but in the end, it is a contract that you agreed to and must be honoured.

Anyone else know any info ?

wow, thats a great point ma friend! i never thought of that.

everytime i get my cc bill, i am used to all my charges being posted asap. but lets say the vendor forgets to charge you , then realizes, like you said, a year later, .... i think the contract between the buyer and the seller would still be valid...even if it was 5 years later because intentions were to purchase the item. ... good point ;)

The irony is that if I spent $350 on a wallet...I won't have much left to put into said wallet.

I had an expensive wallet once. It lasted forever, and never faded. It was great. It was no $350, but I too, had an expesive girlfriend and... the rest is obvious.

Anywho, hopefully it won't get charged... What happens if he cancels his credit card? They can't charge it to him.. or even if he reports it stolen, they can't charge it.

The only people you can contact who can make a difference is the store in HK. CC companies cannot help to bill you even if you wanted to.

Why the heck would u buy from SOGO LOL, they're at least 40% overpriced compared to other stores. I love their japanese supermarket though :D

a) what's with these cummer comments. I'm doing what..... asking about some random situation? I was bored! Curious if anyone would actually call the department store about it considering thats the most ethical thing to do probably.

b) cancel the credit card eh? Haha, that's one option, but nah.... I don't care that much about the money and its money I should technically be paying anyways... not going to go out of my way to scam them.... =)

c) yes, the wallet is expensive. yes, I have no idea why someone would pay so much for one. yes, it is not for me... yes, I do like spoiling my girlfriend for her Christmas present...

d) no idea why I bought it at sogo. Because I'm a big "banana" who doesn't have any idea where to go shopping in HK? Although the 3-4 other stores I went to had the same price so meh.

Nah, take it easy. It was all good fun since cummer constantly boasted about his (possibly non-existent) $300+ Burberry designer wallet. That's all.

You can basically tell who is younger and who is older. Who is cheap, and who likes to spend. I think the average age on this board is less than 21. There was a poll, but I'm too lazy to look for it. My head hurts.

lol....i think we can justify the difference between cars because there is so much technology and materials put in the making of an auto....you can only put so much into a wallet...unless its made of pearls and diamonds. ;)

You don't have a mind of your own?

How about a wallet that is hand made, better quality leather, tight stiches, or maybe not leather at all. Maybe some other material. Maybe one that lasts 100x longer than regular leather. Maybe one with a gold money clip?

Ha ha! I have to agree with Hurk on this one.. people buy expensive wallets because they choose to. Branding and quality are also good reasons. For example, look at Nike products - someone has to pay for the massive amounts of advertising they do. BTW Hurk, just ignore the troll-type comment.. besides, this is the off-topic forum! Trolls are alive and well here!

Nothing wrong with an expensive wallet if you have the cash to spare.

I was just thinking though, imagine if you spilled coffee on it, or dropped it in a mud puddle... you'd be sick! At least with an expensive car, you have insurance coverage if you crash it. If I had a $350 wallet, I'd be too scared to use it for fear of losing/ wrecking it!

I'm sure it's a beautiful wallet though, so more power to you. And if it turns out to be a free wallet, even better.
