Is Winbond UTT really CH-5?

cadaveca
Mar 23rd, 2005, 07:57 PM
Yes. they are identical chips, however, winbond is not making memory anymore, and someone else is using thier fabs to produce the ch-5 chips, so they ARE CH-5, but they are not. ch-5 was winbond's label for them. so, technically yes, technically no.

Some of the chips out there are these new ch-5 runs, some of them are old stock that winbond dumped before they closed shop.

There are also a few fabs running copies of the CH-5 chips, but they do not perform at all the same. CH-5 should do 2-2-2-5 @ 3.2v, 200mhz-240mhz. The fakes barely reach 220 @ the same settings.

what makes the UTT so special is the PCB they sit on...not the chips. the Brain Power pcb's make chips faster. DOn't ask me why, all i can say is better design, i guess.

you can find similar "UTT" on different PCB's that will not perform as well. They ARE UTT, but the pcb limits thier performance.

That Sempron is a great deal-I paid $150 for mine 3 months ago (retail Box). Presently running it at 2480MHz, cool and stable.
Bump for a very underrated processor!

You bet the sempron is good...maxed my board out at 263HTT. If my board went father, it would be a keeper. Oh, and do i need to mention that this is on default volts(1.4), and that my idle temps, with water, are roomtemp? and that load is only 39c? the lack of cache makes for a real cool CPU! to get that performance with default voltage...500mhz i got!

It's not harsh...lots of guys with lots of heat have screwed people over. It's nothing against anyone personally, ya know. Do i need mention any names? LoL. Most of the high-end guys have seen me on one forum or another anyway.

And yews, good deals...going pci-e x850 and DFI. Just gotta go to the store and pick them up.

you can find similar "UTT" on different PCB's that will not perform as well. They ARE UTT, but the pcb limits thier performance.

They're similar, but not the same. The performance levels are comparable, but a different die size is used. Thus, UTT != BH5/CH5 (unless you happen to get one of a few hundered Mushkin Blue kits that went to Outpost in the U.S.--they used original BH5, but they are NOT the norm).

UTT = (U)n(T)es(T)ed new BH5 and CH5 dies.

They're made by Infineon using Winbond designs, but are different die sizes (130 versus 170.........I think).

Bump for some deals, anyways.

I have both valueVX and this vdata stuff...identical sticks, same performance.

there is also UTT that has chips that fit the pcb from top to bottom...these chips are the BH-5 "UTT". If the chips do not reach the top of the pcb, they are CH-5 "UTT".

Infineon took over Winbond's memory business a while back and have been producing these chips...and actually, Winbond is still making them, but Infineon has sole rights for distribution and sales of all of Winbond's memory products. This allows Winbond to just be a producer of IC's, while Infineon does the rest. Winbond is still out there, but not marketing it's chips any longer.

the fake UTT has oval dots instead of round dots. If you like, i can email you pics so you can see that the chips are the saem...i have the vdata here now, and some Winbond branded ch-5. They are the one and same thing.

Last bump. Good deals gone to Ebay. Lol, might as well sell it as a complete system.
