it's not even relevant whether some1 elses chip might "beat" yours if it's grossly overclocked, you could always overclock this chip. But why bother, this is the best cpu around folks, and the price is very nice.

Thanks Postumus your right.
As for the overclock just ran a bench last night and got 34893 in 01 and about 15000 in 03 will run 05 today.Anyone wanting a deskshot to verify can PM me Thanks Frank.

What are you getting to replace the FX-55?

Mar 22nd, 2005, 11:03 AM
Actually, FYI 3000+ cpu chips can reach 3.3ghz, newer motherboards can hit 400fsb, and 400x9 is 3.6ghz, ive seen a cpu-z verified screenie on a overclocking forum with a 3000+ up to 3.4ghz, now of couse a fx-55 at 3.2ghz would be able to beat out a 3000+ overclocked 200mhz higher, due to the fact that a fx-55 has new architecture, more instructions and 1mb cache. Im willing to bet that a 3.0ghz fx-55 could beat out a 3000+ at 3.4ghz. But also fx-55's can be overclocked to a max of 4.4ghz due to their higher multiplier, which is higher then 3.6ghz. So inevitably no matter what stupid newb says about their $150 chip, it cant beat out a fx-55.

some one actually said a 3000 could beat a fx55? newb moron. THis is a great deal!

I swear he really did,he said his was running at 2.7Mhz.Mind you so he said never saw a desktop shot of anything.I am surprised he has not posted some sort of remark yet on my thread.I expect he probably will at some point!

My 2.7 GHz Winchester can sure beat an FX-55 @ stock in many instances. Is it better? No. Is it a better price/performance? Yes, about 5 times better.

well thats true for sure, but the extra cache is always nice on the fx55

Atleast he admits that his 3000+ isnt better. But hes wroung, a 3000+ wont beat a fx-55 just cuz its clocked 100mhz faster. I would love to see some benches, i dont just been gaming benches, but benches that measure it by how long it takes to do instructions. Forget the name but that program that does tests in a minute and tests how fast you can get it done. Im sure a fx-55 would beat a 3000+ is pretty anything.

Mar 22nd, 2005, 12:01 PM
Well when you put it that way price to perfomance, yes your right. But as an all around chip an FX55 is tops right now,so really it depends on what you want to do with that chip that would determine which chip is best for the individual.

There is one thing I have to say,and that is that some people make comments like their 3000+ cpu is just as good as an FX55 if they run them at 2.6Mhz and at 2.7Mhz.
Well consider this,do they over clock to 2.9Mhz or 3.0Mhz on air and can they get to 3.4ghz and higher on phase change cooling.
The reason I mention this is that someone on this forum PM'ed me the last time I posted this FX chip and said and I quote My 3000 will Rape your FX55 lol, buddy should get a real life!!Thanks Frank.
"Frank" and his 3000+ is clearly a wanna-be exhibiting jealousy. Good luck with your sale of one of the finest desktop CPUs today! :D

Thanks Nodes for what you said.Look to all that think the 3000 is a better buy great! This post is for an FX55 not for those who want to start a debate. And this post is not to convince or sway any one's idea of which cpu is better period! If you feel the price of an FX55 chip is unreasonable call AMD don't post HERE.If you have not used one then how can you make an honest comparison between them.I have had both and everything in between and the FX55 is tops right now Period enough said!!

The Sempron 2400 is less than half the price of a 3000
so obviously that is a far better buy. YOU CAN'T DENY THAT EITHER!
In fact, the Sempron rules all

FX55 has unlocked multiplier, Athlon64s are locked
FX55 is made with 130nm micron with SOI (silicon on insulator) to insure ultra hi frequency and low heat output.
64s are made with regular process or 90nm.
U can run FX55 with 15X200 to reach 3ghz or 12X250 with tight ram timing of 2-2-2-x, but a 3000 can only go for 333X9, which mean u can only run your ram at loose timing or use ratio divider--loose performance. oh many ppl runs their fx55 at 3ghz on AIR.
Also the 1 mb of L2 cache is a lot faster than 512mb of L2 cache, it matters and it's a simple fact.
so 3000 pwn3d a FX55-->horsecrap from heaven. :twisted:

I'm a proud owner of the FX-53 and it destroys... the only reason I got the 53 was because I couldn't find a 55 locally and a friends' shop had one that was ordered in... Someone needs to pick this up! Crazy processing power, hah.
EDIT: Sorry, don't mean to jack your thread or anything but I just figured I'd let you know that the FX-55 chip sells retail box for between $1099 (www.memoryexpress.com) and $1200 now...
