ROAD RAGE ENDS IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY COLLISION
The York Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a
serious personal injury motor vehicle collision which occurred on Sunday,
March 13, 2005, in the Town of Richmond Hill.
At approximately 8:55pm, a silver 1989 Honda Civic was stopped at the exit
from the Petro Canada gas bar located at Bayview Avenue and 16th Avenue.
The 35-year-old driver from Toronto was searching for some misplaced money.
A car pulled up behind the Honda and started honking its horn. The driver
of the Honda waved for the other vehicle to go around him.
This vehicle, a silver, 2000 Daewoo Nubria, pulled up door to door with the
Honda. The passenger in the Daewoo began yelling obscenities at the driver
of the Honda. The driver of the Honda became concerned for his safety and
turned north on Bayview Ave. The two men in the Daewoo, 21yrs and 22yrs,
of Toronto, followed the Honda.
As the driver of the Honda stopped at the traffic lights facing him, the
Daewoo made minor contact with the rear of the Honda. The driver of the
Honda, began to fear for his safety and fled east on Sixteenth Avenue. The
Daewoo accelerated and pursued the Honda. The driver of the Honda called
911 on his cell phone and requested police assistance. The driver made
contact with police as he fled south on Leslie Street, still being pursued
by the Daewoo. The driver of the Daewoo pulled up beside the Honda and
made contact with the side of the vehicle as they were continuing to drive
south on Leslie Street.
The intentional contact of the Daewoo into the Honda caused the Daewoo to
lose control and skid sideways across the centre line into the path of a
northbound Acura. The two men in the Daewoo were not wearing their seat
belts and were ejected from the vehicle onto Leslie Street.
The driver of the Acura, a 46-year-old Richmond Hill woman, suffered
non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to York Central Hospital.
The driver of the Honda continued southbound and stopped at a plaza parking
lot a short distance away. He awaited the arrival of police. He was not
injured.
The two men in the Daewoo suffered life-threatening injuries and they were
rushed to Sunnybrook and Womens College Health Sciences Centre in Toronto.
Any witnesses or anyone with information about this incident is asked to
contact the Traffic Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7703, Crime Stoppers at
1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.crimestoppersyr.ca.
