My bro bought a new house and he wanted to add a new bathroom in the basement so he can rent it out.
Anyone know how much this would cost?
I also lost the link for that DIY forum =( can anyone help me with that?

The washroom is planned to be in the laundry room, so there is water plumbing.
the room is already enclosed so drywall etc doesnt need to be done.
i seen online quotes from 9-15,000USD!! MAybe someone on here has some canadian expirience with bathroom additions

Bathrooms are among the most expensive rooms to complete.

Remember, you'll need more than just a hot/cold line. You'll need a line in the concrete for the toilet/shower to drain into, and you'll need a line that draws in air to flush the toilet....

Does he plan on doing it himself?

I can't see it being that much if everything is there.
But I don't really know anything.

Just to get the plumbing stuff done... cabinets, tubs, tiles etc can be done on our own.

$5000.00 in parts(tub-vanity-sink-toilet-ect) and i did the work.
So expect to pay $7500

I'm having my basement finished at this very moment. If you include the cost for the fixtures, toilet, labour, etc. I would say that it's about $3000 total.

My basement bathroom is just a "powder" room though (no shower). The contractor said it would be about $1500 more to add a shower.

friend of mine just did his bathroom, using a contractor....cost was around 10K for the whole basement, including a 3 piece bathroom and everything looks really nice.

for the bathroom only, I'd say around 3000.00 should be okay.

I have a friend that just got his master bathroom done and he paid $80,000. No joke! It's marble, gold faucets, heated floor, huge tub, shower with I forget how many jets from every angle that could fit ummm... I'd say 8 people with marble benches etc. etc. A little over the top if you ask me!

In reality I would say 1500-3000 for your needs.

Was your plumbing roughed in for a bathroom already?

Because laundry room =/= bathroom.
You will have to tear up the concrete in the basement to put drains in for the shower and toilet. Chances are your washing machine drain and plumbing wont be in the right spot.

I spent over $3000 on just the shower in our basement a couple years ago, the whole bathroom was around ~$8000 and that was doing a bunch of work ourselves.

I'm glad someone else is on the balls.

It'll cost money to get the problem plumbing put in since they'll have to cut out your floor, run the piping to the proper location, and then pour concrete back overtop.

that is the main problem. The plumbing.
The quotes ppl put here are mostly for adding the tub, toilet, sink and everything with the plumbing already set up.

you need a permit from the gov't to "legally" install a bathroom where there was not one before. That costs $$$ and money. And sometimes they send a inspector to check the work.

So my tip just in case you have a neighbour who you think might rat you out in case you don't get a permit.

Drive into the garage with all the supplies and close the garage door, also throw the boxes for toilet, shower stall AWAY from your house.

btw you are using waterproof drywall right? especially if you are going to do any tiling?

You should ALWAYS get a city inspector - they'll be able to tell you if what the contractor (Or yourself) is right or not.

You don't use "drywall" persay, you'll use a special board (I keep thinking something like durarock) that is moisture resistant.

As well, you'll need to do a lot of levelling on the floor.....

Personally, I'd love to tackle it myself. But I know if it's your first bathroom, it may take a lot of research....

this is when it comes in handy to have good friends that do electrical, plumbing and drywalling....one hand washes the other....mine came out to like $500 bux !! lol

but if its roughed in, the plumbing that is...you are a big step ahead....
if you're just renting ot out...do it rself....i did the framing...and partial drywalling...
