Pcgatecomputer. 95$ for genuine Magicgate pro duo. 512MB.
Canadacomputers.com sells it for :
Sony MagicGate Memory Stick Pro Duo 512MB $119.
At canadacomputers you must pay tax. But at pcgatecomputer i can normally bargain for no tax.
This is perfect for the psp.
Note * this is not the sandisk one. This is genuine.
Or if you have any other cheaper places post in this forum. please and thanks.

i'm looking for a memory stick too. i guess sony is better than sandisk? although sandisk is a bit cheaper but not sure of the specs comparing to sony's.
not a bad price considering FS is selling it for $110.
if it's $95 no tax it would be a great price.

This is mainly important for the many PSPs being purchased soon.
AFAIK it only uses Sony sticks, and they're generally expensive.

There's one person here I know who is using a Sandisk Pro Duo on his PSP without problem.

You mean the PSPs will only work with Sony Branded Memory Stick Pro Duo ?

The built-in media slot accommodates both Memory Stick Duo™ and Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media for saving game data. Video and music content can also be recorded on the media for anytime enjoyment on PSP wherever it is used.

Memory Stick PRO Duo Standard
Designed for a wide range of electronic devices, many of them recently introduced by Sony and other companies, the SanDisk Memory Stick PRO Duo Standard line is ideal for memory-intensive use, and is offered in capacities of 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB and, now, 2GB. Products that have Memory Stick PRO Duo slots include portable game and multimedia systems (such as the new Sony PSP), mobile phones, digital camcorders, MP3 players, desktop PCs and laptops and printers.
No where does it specify Sony brand only. You're the first person that I've heard claming this.
On the other hand, Ecost tends to have good deals on Sandisk MS Pro Duo. I got a 512MB for US$ 58 few weeks ago, came out to under CAD$ 90 shipped via Borderexpress. Sorry, can't get into their site right now...

From my experience using MS for years, there is absolutely no difference between various brands, unless you start talking about the latest performance-oriented versions designed for fast write speed.
I own (and have owned) just about every brand of MS out there (genuine Sony, Lexar, Sandisk, IOData, you name it). I have not noticed any difference, and not a single one has failed. In fact, with the possible exception of the hi-speed version MS, I have a feeling they could all possibly have come from the same production line. IMHO, if you buy Sony-branded MS, you are really paying a premium just for the name.

can't risk large $$$ purchases on ebay ... that's y i rarely buy stuff off ebay, altho the prices are good (some hot)

I find it odd that anyone would question my comment, as the only Sandisk ones that are Sony compatible came out this month
That's not much testing to go on. But, I guess fair to trust Sandisk, because the media is more reliable than all the 3rd party memory that failed on the Ps1/PS2.

I buy and sell a lot on eBay. I can vow that eBay is a good system and a good place to buy from.
You just need to read the past couple of feedbacks on the seller. Make sure the seller has at least 95% feedback with over 50 feedbacks. Then you would normally be safe
A lot of ppl curse the seller because they got taxed. You will just have to get the seller to declare the item as a GIFT with value < $60 as Canadian customs only start taxing on stuff declared above $60
And yes, you need the item contents declared. Or else they will open the package and charge taxes on some crazy $$$ value for the item + $5 service charge for opening up the package.

purchasing from ebay is not a scam. I bought a genuine sony 128 MS from someone in HK. for $36. I even think I overbid to win the auction.
Definitely have to check out the feedback score first

As to Canada Post only taxing you on a certain dollar amount is not necessarily true. I got taxed on a $35 mp3 player. They charged pst, gst and the dreaded $5 handling fee. I asked the postal carrier why they charged on this and not on my previous item, which costed the same, he said it all depends on the person handling your package. If he/she feels like charging, they will, if not, they'll let it go. If they are extremely busy, they'll overlook a lot. If they got lots of time on their hands, then nothing gets through for free. Didn't make the mp3 player that good of a deal after all. But for a 256 mp3 player with fm for $56, I guess I shouldn't complain.

I buy from eBay all the times. Only once did I received the item late (over 30 days). I complainted to my credit card and got my money back the same day the stupid item arrived. What can I say, the dealer doesn't exist anymore even if I want to return or pay again. The bottom line, even if you got scammed, your credit card company ALWAYS on the customer's side. I would know, I have a business and couple debit/credit machines. If there is a dispute, the credit card company always side with the customers and "charge-back" the business.

Just do the leg work beforehand. Always check people's feedback rating to see if they have had any recent negatives and make sure they have a high feedback rating. I've found in my experience, I only use PayPal auctions. It's quick and easy to pay, plus it leaves an easy trail to follow up with the person if they do screw you over. Just be heads up, just like you would when making any other purchases. I buy stuff off eBay all the time and have only had 1 botched auction, and got that resolved too, so don't let the odd bad story scare you away from getting a phenomenal deal.

If it's not declared a gift, they will charge tax on anything over $20 CAD in value. I had a package clearly marked as gift (under $60 CAD) charged taxes. There is a form on the back of the customs invoice that they put on your package (if you're charged taxes) where you can ask for a refund. Of course you have to pay the tax first (to pick up the package if it's via Canada Post; I don't know about FedEx, UPS or DHL) but if you have a legitimate case they will refund the taxes paid.
Some sellers don't like to undervalue the products they sell. I've even seen sellers give buyers negative feedback for asking to undervalue the item (although I suspect the buyer may have refused to pay after finding out the seller would not undervalue the item). I usually ask and they usually comply. Sometimes they don't want to so it's always wise to ask before committing to the purchase.

They rate 512 MB as 512,000,000 Bytes, which we all know is false.
there are 2^10 (^ means power of) bytes in a KB, and 2^10 KB in a MB.
Thus 512,000,000 / 1024 / 1024 = 488.28 MB - overhead of formatting gets you whatever they say is the storage capacity :p
Anyways, just accept the fact that it is, and you'll be perfectly fine. :P

I guess not everyone or most people don't know about this.
But Sony and Sandisk developed the Memory Stick Pro together.
Therefore, there shouldn't be any difference in performance and reliability between the 2 brands.
It's just really the Sony name that makes it more expensive than Sandisk's.
http://www.sandisk.com/pressrelease/030109_sony.htm
However, if you ask me, I will still spend the extra $$ for a Sony brand rather other brands just because of the name. It's just the feeling of owning a genuine Sony producet. But honestly, I know there is really no difference between the two brands because they co-developed the Memory Stick Pro technology.

Real Canadian Superstore (out west) is selling 256MS Pro for $59. Can't recall if it was Sandisk or Sony.
PS not all Sony products will take MS Pro's. Older sony's are out of luck. check out sonystyle.ca to verify if your sony product will accept MSPro sticks.

They may have developed the technology together; but I think each have their own manufacturer and processes. Just as many memory co's sit on standards boards that develop new dram technologies, each has their own manufacturing facilities or contractors that produce their own branded products and they do differ in quality, reliability and performance.

I would guess Sandisk makes the sony sticks. As I said before, sony doesn't "make" anything themselves.
