I've been keeping tabs on this monitor since it came out, it seems to be quite the topic of other messageboards so I thought I'd throw it out.
2405FPW: $1349 (http://accessories.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?c=ca&cs=CADHS1&image_flag=True&items_per_page=25&l=en&Page=productlisting.aspx&s=dhs&sku=320-4221&spagenum=1)
This could turn HOT with a 15% coupon ;)
Enjoy!

Me too. This is like my dream monitor. 1920 x 1200 resolution. DVI/analog/Component/S-Video/Composite, with Picture in Picture. Would be an excellent monitor for PC *and* TV/movie.
I actually heard from a US forum that this monitor has already gone down to as low as US$860 + tax in the states (not Canada), which is an excellent deal !
Nevertheless, I think I would just go for it if a 15% coupon is available on top of the $1349...

is anyone getting the damn 15% coupons??....I keep signing up and getting NOTHING!>...this includes back at Christmas time...same garbage!
....also, are we able to put the 15% coupon on top of the "already reduced" <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a>
LCDs????....I'm leaning towards the 1905 19"...any input??

I signed up for the 15% code a couple weeks ago and still nothing ;(
We might have to wait for one of their "special offers" or newsletters that will contain the code.
I'm not sure about the 1905 but I currently use the 1800FP and I must say it's one of the best I've owned. After 2 years I still love the thing, I'm debating whether I should sell it or use it with the 2405FPW (if I ever get a coupon to use).

Just would like to let everyone know that the newsletter coupon (15%) won't be stackable with the existing 10% off...
Mine should arrive next monday...

I guess we're waiting for a newsletter either way ;(

All I got was a 10% off, non-stackable. You get the standerd 10% off anyway right now so we wait....here is hoping day 10, or sooner, has the 24" for $999.99.

Something tells me that they won't include such a new item in the 10 Days of Deals, but we can always hope ;)
J|F, mind posting some impressions when you get it?

Yeah... I really think the best they will do is the E193FP in the 10 Days of Deals.
Bought the E173FP and should arrive a day after the 2405FPW. It's for my gf and can't complain much since almost all 17" come with TN panels.
Once I got the 24", I will take lots of pics in every possible angle for your viewing pleasure. :cheesygri
Just want to say one more thing. If some of you are happy enough with the 15% off. Just make a call and talk with a <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> rep for it instead of waiting. Personally I feel OK for the 15% off that I got dealing with the rep.

Damn, just purchased the Benq 23" Widescreen LCD at Futurehop for $1299, and now this comes out. Guess I can return the Benq. The <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> is 1" bigger, faster (12ms vs 16ms), has more inputs (component), and a card reader. Benq looks nicer (subjective), but the <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> is potentially cheaper with 15% off.... Decisions, decisions....

If you buy this and one of the <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> 10 days of deals deal, does <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>dell</a> cover the shipping.
The <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> deals get free shipping, so if you buy that, and this LCD, do we still get the free shipping?
about the cheap US prices, some <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>ebay</a> sellers have taken adv of it, and they are selling these LCDs for around $900USD and they have alot of stock.

seems like a no brainer. for $50 you get a better panel.

Bank of Canada says $900 USD is approx $1040 Canadian. Unless the seller is in Canada, you'll get tagged with duties. Could still be worth it if the duty was cheap, but you'd be put though hell if you had to go back to <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> for a replacement or anything.

My question of the day. How easy is it to call up a <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> rep and get a better deal on this monitor? I'm seeing threads of $860 USD everywhere - just from talking to the right people. Why is there such a variance on price?
My company (pretty large) has an EPP through <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a>, but it's listed as a measly 5%.
Check out this thread here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=216869&page=1&pp=15) for some contact info/sales rep. Too bad it's US though.

All I know is my "brokerage" charges for $60 worth of cables from ordered from California equalled about $30+. Not a pleasant suprise when FedEx hands you the bill.
I'd like to know what's covered by Duty, and how much. In something easy to read, not some obscure government speak.

That fee you were charged was NOT duty.. it was the brokerage fee you paid to the courier to clear your package across the border for you.
Swat
Mar 11th, 2005, 05:06 PM
Hmm. Do brokerage fees usually go up depending on the actual cost? Or could I expect a $30 fee on a $1,000+ monitor as well? I'm clueless when it comes to getting stuff shipped from the states - I usually avoid it.
Because of NAFTA - no duty, correct? So if there's a super hot deal on the <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> US site, and the <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> CAN site has nothing - ordering from US is actually a feasible option? (other than warranty implications of course).

Being in Canada you CANNOT order from <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> USA. THey will simply tell you to order from <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> Canada because <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=167 target=_blank>Dell</a> USA will NOT ship to Canada.
Best way to go about it is if you have a friend in the US, order it to them, and have them ship it to you from the US, once they receive it.

They aren't made in the USA, though - they're made in Mexico. Thankfully, Mexico is a NAFTA member as well. You'll pay taxes on this when you bring it across the border, but no duty.

Or simply drive across the border to visit your Amerifriend and save on the ridiculuous shipping charges. I go down to Buffalo regularly (tomorrow in fact) and bring and declare my stuff all the time. About 50% of the time, I get waived through and don't pay any extra (I guess it depends on your license plate/track record and if they're busy inspecting).

If you live in Montreal, you can try this:
Freeport Forwarding Inc, (518) 298-8582, 1320 State Route 9, Champlain, NY
12919
You get your package delivered to them and then go pick it up for a $2 US (3 or 4 canadian) charge. They are about 5 minutes from the Lacolle border crossing.
(Haven't tried it myself, but got this info in another forum)

Yeah, just over the border at Tsawassen, in Point Roberts, Washington is a place called The Letter Carrier right on the main drag (145 TYEE DR, (360) 945-1707). They took over Point Roberts Parcel Service a few years back.
Another one I found on the web is TSB Shipping Plus. Here's their website: http://www.tsbshipping.com/
I'm sure there's ones in Blaine, Washington, but I'm familiar with Point Roberts as my in-laws own a cabin/cottage there.

It appears that you have to call some certain rep(s) in India and plead for a price break on the monitor. Your mileage really varies with this one. Lowest price attained was US$860 but is averaging US$920 for the monitor.
Funny thing about the process... this is how I bought my 2nd gen iPod two years ago, through Dell.com and calling a rep in India directly by his extension and getting huge discount because he was a supervisor. YMMV!
