what do you guys think about the kingston ram. I wanna get some 512 to add to my previous one and im not looking for anything special. So no over clocking something cheap yet still works reasonably well. Right now I have a King Max pc 3200 DDR 400. Would there be any compatability issues im not aware of?

I'm not overclocking, but I do have my Samsung 2x512 memory set fairly tight in timing and no errors in memtest. It's only a few $$ difference, but still...

Same here. I would recommend the Samsungs over the Kingstons. Mine at doing 2.5-3-3-6. They won't do cas 2 but they overclock really well at 2.5.

Yeah, I don't think these sales are to WOW customers and give them 50% off etc. It's just a nice little sale for people that were probably already thinking of upgrading their system and would like a few bucks off of something they were going to purchase anyway. That's how I've always looked at it myself. I usually won't look for a price that's so cheap I'll just buy it because it's cheap, I'll look if I was going to buy some ram or a video card anyway, and to save sometimes $10 or $20.

Yeah I agree. I don't normally buy upgrades on a whim - I'm gonna look about for few days when the need arises and 90% of the time ncix has it at the right price and I'll have it as fast (or faster) than if I waited till the weekend to go buy it. I like that their sale comes out once a week.

I don't know what prices YOU'RE looking at, but I see ~$41 vs. ~$38 per 50pcs. Now taking into account shipping, and depending on where you live, you might have a point, but raw cost vs. raw cost is in NCIX's favour currently.

Hmm... what I've read regarding overclocking of the Kingstons are that they use lots of different chips and lately they haven't been overclocking well is the only reason I would take the Samsungs which are usually the TCCC chips which do about average 225-235 at Cas 2.5. You may get the Winbond UTT's on them (the Kingstons) but they don't do well at all as they are based on UTT's but designed totally differently IIRC. I've seen some ppl with them performing up to UTT spec though. They are good but imo, the cheaper the better. Memory doesn't fail all too often anyways.

They are both on sale at NCIX with this sale. I bought the Benq (from ncix) and have noting but good things to say. My previous DVDRW was a NEC 2500 which sounded like a jet taking off and kinda slow to access. The Benq is much quieter and has less access delay.

As for NCIX vs CanadaComputers, well I have read some bad things about CC, but never bought anything from them. I guess I've also read some bad things about NCIX, however, I shop with them almost exlusively now for pc parts. If I order before Thursday noon (EST) with Express shiping I normally get it Friday.

I have had 2 RMAs and both have been handled without a problem. Also, they'll pricematch other places like CC, but I believe CC charges 2% (?) for noncash purchases to NCIX will add this on. And finally, CC will charge you PST, whereas NCIX will not (if you're outside BC).

Or Wal-Mart for that matter :) Glad I got my TY's there.

Umm, NCIX has free ground shipping in some sales/promotions but not this one. I got free ground shipping on order over $300 once so I made them ship me a CRT :) You can also get free ground shipping with 2500 NCIX reward points which are easy to get if you know how.

If you have an account, you'll get e-mails about each of their sales. Each e-mail is 25 points if you claim it. If you buy a lot of junk $1 (cheap) items and then give product reviews about it, you get 50 points each. Uploading pictures gets you 10 points or something like that. Adding a review link from the internet gets you 2 points. And if you review a product that you didn't buy from NCIX but have, that's an easy 10 points right there.

HST is required to be charged regardless of where the business is located. Any company that does NOT charge the HST (for a product going to a province where it is charged) will probably end up audited by the government and heavily penalized.

Isn't HST just a fancy way to say they got you for both taxes [8% + 7%] tho? Harmonized sales tax - at least they give it a pleasant sounding name, hehe.

All the orders I've ever placed with NCIX I was charged 7% GST only, no 8% for PST since I don't live in BC.

cheap_guy
Mar 16th, 2005, 01:09 AM
and wasn't charged any HST... HST is exclusively for atlantic provinces. Every other province charges GST and a provincial tax if its applicable separately. Take a look at the store policies, they should describe the taxes you should be paying. Tiger, for example, charges PST+GST to ontario and quebec, HST for the atlantic provinces and just GST for the rest (if I'm not mistaken). So, on my drive is was 99.98+10 (shipping)+7% ~= 117.

Is the postal code correct on your order?

"All orders shipping within British Columbia (BC) will be charged the applicable provincial sales tax (PST). Goods and Services Tax will be charged for all orders shipped to a Canadian address, except for Government orders and orders bound to destinations where GST is exempt. Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) will be charged to residents of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

For US bound orders, no additional taxes or duties will be charged."

Ok, my bad. I was assuming it was known that HST is only charged by a few provinces. Obviously it is not charged to people who's provinces don't require it.

And nothing has changed by the way, only BC *IS* charged PST by NCIX. But HST is *NOT* PST. It's much closer to GST then it is to PST, as it is collected on a federal level by the same people who collect GST, and it carries much stricter (not to mention swifter) penalties for not paying (for companies mainly).
