Hi,
I have two computers and I was thinking about purchasing a DVD burner and have it encased in one of those external USB2.0 cases. Now, I was wondering if the drive performs just as good as if it were interellay installed?
Another question is, are there any USB2.0 hubs that have two outs, I mean, to be able to hook up both my printer and the drive via the HUB into both computers?
Any help is much appreciated.

hey, i've got a thread about this too, you shouldn't notice a difference using USB 2.0 vs. a regular IDE cable, which is rated at 100mbps. (USB is burst up to 480mbps I believe)

Speed wise it might now, but what about the buffers and all that?

I've got two dvd burners in enclosures (1 home, 1 office). The maximum *REAL* burn speed doesn't go over 6x, so no need to buy a 16x burner. I do recommend that you use firewire instead of usb, if it's possible, as there are a lot of problems with dvd burners and usb 2.0 enclosures. A lot of problems have been found, and there doesn't seem to be a common point between all of them, so no real solution in view. For instance, on my home computer I've only managed to burn +r's, while -r's always fail during burn, but when I put the burner inside a firewire enclosure or hook it up through IDE, it works perfectly.
If you want to look into these problems:
