IPOD question !!

Since I have been wondering this for a while... I figured who best can provide any insight on this matter .???? the experts here...

Now to start...its not a debate whether IPOD vs. other MP3 players are better BUT the question is:
With all the hype and success of all IPODs...so all you IPOD owners (who spent good $$$ on them !)

What happens when the battery dies.... how would you address this issue ?
buy battery from APPLE / replace yourself ??? what are the choices out there for a depleted battery ??? I have heard this battery is expensive to replace..and I am not the type to send it in and wait for it to come back to me..so why buy an IPOD... basically its a how do you handle a dead battery in the IPOD question....
