My comp was working just fine a couple of days ago. But now I cant see or access any drives on it. When i go to "My Computer", nothing shows up & then I get an error mssge & the window shuts down. Same thing if i try to put any web address on the address bar. But the funny thing is i can access the internet with my saved addresses in "favourite".
I am a novice user & wonder wut the heck cud be wrong.
Its an AMD k-6,450Mhz,8.4gHD, just bought off a fellow RFDer a few days ago.I've got the XP pro installed on it (no CD).
Do i need to format it?
If yes, how can i do it?
any help is appreciated.
Ciao

Try opening any folder (for example from a desktop shortcut) and changing the address in the title bar to:

C:\

That should open your C drive. If it works, you might be able to save some files at least. Also try going to the control panels from the start menu and checking that the drives show up in hardware manager. At least one drive should, as you're able to start up!

Try chkdsk c: /r

Thanx guys for all your help.
I downld the WinXP SP2 & installed it & after that it started working fine.
Maybe there was some file that was corrupted & the SP2 fixed it.
Lets see how it goes.
I just wonder if i de-install the SP2, if it wud work fine afterwards?
Thanx

Uninstalling SP2, no. But looks like maybe uninstalling SP2 and reinstalling SP1 might. Unless the XP CD had SP1 built in, in which case a repair from CD should work.
