I'm downloading from one group already and it's working fine but for another group I can't decode any files. I get a 480 Authentication error message. I tried closing the group then reopening it but now won't even let me open the group and download headers http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Any ideas?
I need my Howard Stern clips!

which newsgroup service you using? The group may have been dropped by your service. I use newshosting.com $14.95 US/month for 4 unlimited download streams which max out my connection. I share it with a friend and split the cost.
We use 4 each and never had a problem.

I'm on Rogers nntp service. It was a hiccup in the system. It's working fine now.

Rogers allows a maximum of 2 NNTP connections per IP. So, if you have one news reader doing 2 simultaneous sessions, or 2 news readers doing 1 session each, then Rogers will block add'l connections (and the error message is what you see). The IP is your modem's IP, not your computer IP. So, if someone else on your network is d/l'ing news, they're using up one connection.
Sometimes, it may also happen that the news reader crashes. And a zombie thread is left still downloading. That will also use up a session.
Screw Rogers.

Oh crap you're right. I forgot. Back in the days it was up to 4 sessions.
