I've come across a couple xvid files recently with sound problems on my DVP642. The audio track is VBR MP3. What happens is that throughout the file you hear stuttering snippets of sound, a good 5 to 10 seconds out of sync. Since it's stuttering like that, you're not even getting everything so sync isn't really the big problem. Oh, and it plays perfectly on the computer, just not on the 642.

I tried re-encoding the audio with VirtualDub, and naturally I could hear the audio, but it was terribly out of sync (it also changed the file so that instead of appearing in letterbox on the dvd player it was all stretched out).

I'm sure I could extract the VBR, re-encode to CBR and remux it, but it seems to me it's probably a simpler problem like a bad header or something (I could be wrong). I have a bunch of files I would want to fix so if this is a known problem with a quick fix, I'd love to hear about it! :)

Thanks.

I have the same player and have random problems with burnt dvd-r movies pixelizing etc. They play fine on another player and on my xbox. I gave up on the Philips player and I'm using my xbox to play movies. Picture quality is much better too.

This is a problem with divx, not DVD. I've never had any other issues with this player (aside from the odd file that won't play, but that's to be expected).

Do not re-encode it to CBR in one step. Uncompress the audio (PCM) and then reencode it with a CBR.

Ugh - I've got a ton of files to do that to. Any recommendations for software?

Thanks.

VD can do a whole a folder automatically. When you have the settings the way you want, press F4 to bring up Job Control. Edit -> Process Directory.

Hmm, nice. I hadn't realized it could do that. That would just be for remuxing the corrected CBR mp3's, though, right? I know I can extract the sound with VirtualDubMod, but what about converting from VBR to CBR?

Edit: Never mind... I found it. :) Thanks!
