Ok, Ive got both of these CPUs, Im keeping one and selling the other.
The 2.8C OC's to 3.5GHz pretty easily and runs pretty cool.
Full load under 50C.
The 2.8E also does 3.5GHz, but runs very hot, over 60C.
At 3.3GHz, it stays mid 50'sC.
So should I keep the 2.8C @ 3.5GHz, or the 2.8E @ 3.3GHz.
I know the C has 512kb cache, vs the E's 1mb cache.
For cooling im using the XP120 w/120mm fan and some AS5.

Northwoods game better, Prescotts are supposed to better for applications.
Personally I'd take the 200 MHz and cooler system, but I'm a gamer.

Doesn't matter what game... The prescott has a longer pipeline. Cache doesn't help in gaming.
The margin is razor thin, but it is there. Northwood is a better gaming chip
3.2EE vs. 3.2E vs. 3.2C (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=1965)

How do I oc my 2.8? (I think i have an e since it has 1mb L2 cache)?
I got my comp from FS and I'm not even sure what my mobo is...
Maybe there's a soft jumper menu setting just like my old computer.
But are there any special things I need to do? I heard that intel locked the multiplier or something like that.

use clockgen because if u bought it at fs, the mobo is 100% not programmed for bios changes.

the difference between the 2 for your uses will be so small...its not like your benchmarking...even the difference between the 2 @ 1600x1200 full res aa+af will be a few fps at most games.

Bablou, I am guessing this is the 2.8e I sold you??
I ran that thing all the time at the speed (3.5, 1.6vcore) and never had an issue, just cranl up the speed on the XP120 fans and if you still have it in the antec case, with the other 2 120's, then it shouldnt hit 60, And if you arent using that stuff, there really isnt any issue untill you hit 70 (although many dont want that lol)

wow i never knew E's had HT :o
i guess u learn something everyday
btw i would still go with C because of the temperature difference ;)

I'm guessing theres probably some disadvantages of using such a program because its software based? Do you happen to know what they are?
Also, will I need an additional cooling for my computer? I have this huge heatsink and 90mm fan (it came with the computer though so I don't know if thats any good).
Thanks!
