I own a company and shipped an item using XXX Inc.

The item needed to be shipped to a hold station where the customer would pick-up the item. Its my first time shipping and on the bill of lading, I put "hold for pickup"... I was later told but by a customer service rep to put "Box Pull" instead, so I scratched out hold for pickup and put in box pull.
The driver ended up delivery straight to the customer's house and now XXX wants to charge me an extra $100US on top of the prepaid $200 for shipping. They say "box pull" means nothing to them.

XXX is very stubborn on the fees and won't even split the costs. They say if I don't pay by friday, they'll report it to the credit agency. I've already spent over 1/2hr talking on the phone with them explaining how it was THEIR mistake and how I shouldn't have to pay for it... no luck.

Is there ANYTHING I can to do NOT PAY this UNJUSTIFIED charge?

and if I do end up paying, is there anyway to deface XXX's name so nobody else would fall into this trap?

update:
talked to the customer and he said he got a call when the package was at the freight dock. When he said he was going to pick it up, the driver said "no, we are going to deliver it to your house".
So basically, the driver knew to the customer will pickup from the loading dock but still insisted on delivering. now I'm getting charged for it... how the hell does that work?

If this CSR told you in person to change the description, and you can get their name, I would pay the extra money and take the company into small claims court, explaining that you were told by so-and-so CSR to do that and it cost you money because it was incorrect advice.
If you were told that over the phone, you'll have a tougher time. I would pay the extra money to clear it up first and then take it from there.

box pull?
Yeah, I used to work for UPS and never hold of "Box Pull" either. "Hold for Pickup" is the standard.

To start, you could use their real name instead of XXX.

You originally paid $200 for them to ship/hold the item, your paid the money, your consideration is them performing the service. The transportation of the item from them to its final destination is separate and not something that you should be liable for, if they didn't understand what was supposed to be done, then they should have called you and found out, that’s what a reasonable person would have done. Your contract was for them to hold it, you pre-paid it, if there was going to be a change in that, it should have been expressed. But IANAL.
