View Full Version : Does Soyo owe you rebates?
bug
Feb 22nd, 2005, 02:00 AM
I'm starting this thread to see how many of us Soyo has stiffed with their so called mail in rebates. I bought a Soyo SY-P4VGA motherboard in March 2004. The advertised TD price of $69.99 - $62.99 MIR was too good to pass up. I also bought a Soyo mid tower 350w case with keyboard/mouse/speakers from TD which had a $20.00 MIR. After 10 months of frequent emails to them, I am still waiting. I complained to TD, who said I had to contact Soyo about it. Today I received an email from Soyo saying:
" I am sorry to inform you that you are not in the system. If you would like to resolve this issue please contact luisb@verifyrebate.com (please note that at times emails DO NOT get through, due to limited emailing) or you can also send a letter to
Special Care Customer Service Dept.
1042 N.Moutain Ave #B 219
Upland, CA 91786 "
I replied saying: Well why am I not in the system when I was just 2 weeks ago? Do you delete customers rebate info instead of paying them? I telephoned Soyo(909-292-2538) last month and was in the system then.Spoke to someone there and was assured my 2 rebates(62.99 + 20.00) would be mailed within 2 weeks.
10 months is much too long to have to wait for rebates.
Enough stalling...send me my rebate cheques. If you offer rebates..pay them!
I tried calling that number again and was immediately put on hold, with loud annoying marching band music playing. After a few min I gave up. Called back later and got a damn answering service. Left a message, but dont expect a reply.
How many others were stiffed by Soyo?

Come on people. I'm sure I'm not the only one they scammed.

I bought a SOYO barebones kit (Celeron2.7/mobo/fan/case/spkrs/mouse/keybd) it came with 3 Soyo MIR's $20 US + $20 Us + $50 US. Purchase was made in June, and it took till December to get the rebates.
Soyo ignored emails, voice messages left etc.
I simply kept calling them (in California) - thank goodness for the Bell employee free VOIP trial - and demanding to speak with someone in customer service ie I nagged till they honoured my rebates - probably to get rid of me
Considering the time spent, the slight depreciation of the US dollar amount of the rebate (due to the rise in the Canadian dollar) and the aggravation - I'd think twice before buying a SOYO product.

They usually ignore MIR, unless you ask. I did receive the rebate after e-mailing rebate@soyousa.com

I'm still waiting on a $20USD rebate from a usb drive purchased in Dec 2003. I finally went to the BBB and now they claim I will receive a check in two weeks. I've got another week to go, then I go back to the BBB with a copy of their email to show what kind of stinking rat bastards they really are. It's not about the money anymore.

I ordered the same motherboard. They told me in late Octorber I'd get it within 3 weeks... I'm still waiting dammit!! I'm gonna check that email address out; this is getting to frustrating to put up with anymore.
And my question is: if TigerDirect is advertising the rebates and they never are delivered, would/could TigerDirect be responsible for the rebates?

Don't email rebate@soyousa.com anymore; send it to soyo@verifyrebate.com.
Maybe we'll actually get our money this year... scammin' ba$tards....

Update: I emailed luisb@verifyrebate.com and explained my rebate problems, and how I was not impressed with how Soyo handled treats their customers. Afew days later I received this reply:
Dear valued Customer:
Thank you for your recent submission of your rebate request.
Your rebate check has mailed. Please let us know if you do not receive the
rebate checks within 2 weeks.
I would like to thank you again for your inquiry and patience!

I'll believe it when I see it. I'll post a pic of it here if it does come.
So if Soyo still owes you rebates, email luisb@verifyrebate.com and politely explain all the specifics.

Haha .. well that Monique person at TD gave me the same line. After a dozen emails I finally received my cheque (from TD, not from Soyo). Guess she was sick of replying with the lies. It was also in CDN dollars and not US dollars. This was for the USB key. Still waiting for the MB, and some 7-in-1 reader from syntax, modem from kobian, etc.
When I get around to it I will file with BBB also. How much does it cost BTW?

LOL... you know what... I'm in the same boat... bought the P4VGA board and just checked this month as well.. after 10 months and previously "approved", I'm suddenly no longer in the system... but thanks for Luis' email cause now I'm forwarding him all my info...
I got the standard "the mail carrier lost it" excuse which is total BS cause how could I be in the system and suddenly they blame it on the carrier.
This experience has totally turned me off from buying any Soyo product.

I've been trying to get my rebate as well for this motherboard but still no luck. Hopefully Soyo and Tigerdirect will get the hint if everyone starts emailing them.

I wrote to both TD and Soyo months ago about the rebates. I bought the exact same Soyo MB from TD as well as a Soyo memory stick with rebate.
It took almost a year but I did get my rebates. The important thing here is you need to fill out a web form on the Soyo site - once they get that somehow they look up your rebate submission. It was no longer than 3 weeks after I did that and I had both rebates.
TD did jack to to help me get my rebate. I was so frustrated with them that I have not bought anything from them since! Soyo on the other hand seems to be keeping alot of rebates .. not sure how many consumers just give up after they send their rebate in.
You really have to chase after them if you want your rebate. ( Just my 2 cents. )

I don't know, that still doesn't excuse the fact that for some people (like myself) who were previously approved to have their rebate status suddenly removed and putting the onus back on the customer to send their info again via registered mail.
I originally sent my rebate (all typed up, so the rebate department couldn't mess it up) by Xpresspost (I also have confirmation that they received it).
So when they turn around saying it was lost in the mail it's a load of BS. I have a tracking #, emails saying I was approved (and I should wait 2 to 3 weeks for my cheque, blah blah blah). When I get that cheque I'll believe it...

I finally got my rebate from Xmas 2003. It took a complaint to the BBB to finally get it (although they claimed they never received it, even though their website showed it approved.) Amazingly, I forwarded their email showing that I was approved and they magically found my address (I didn't give it to them in the email). Amazing since they never received my rebate.
Moral of the story - send your rebates to Soyo, but cc the BBB.

It's an online form you fill in. I was just honest without telling them my real feelings about Soyo. All they do is forward the info to a contacct person at Soyo who will probably make sure you get your rebate. That way they have a good record with the BBB. PM me if you need more specific info.

Sounds to me like it's quicker and easier to just forget about all the emailing and report them to BBB. :)

Two weeks away from the anniversary of me sending in the rebate...
I got mine yesterday... does not say if it is in USD or not but since it was mailed from California it should be un USD...

It's US dollars if it's drawn on a US bank cheque.
So I guess we won't ever see it unless we hassle them for it. I'm not even going to bother, just going straight to the BBB route. :)

It was almost a whole year since I sent it in.
Email Luis if you haven't received your rebates... it also took longer than the regular "3 weeks" but I got it.
