A man has been operating a pickpocket scam in the downtown Toronto area for a year and a
half. He has been involved in at least 20 pickpocket thefts. There is reason to believe he may
be involved in another 30 cases.

On Tuesday, January 11, 2005, the suspect was directly behind his victim in the food court of
100 King Street. He managed to reach into the victim’s pocket behind him and remove his
wallet. He stole the victim’s American Express card and Toronto Dominion Bank employee
access card, then placed the wallet back in the victim’s pocket, and left the area.
He may be in company of a second male suspect.

He is described as: possibly Middle Eastern or Mediterranean, 5’10", 220 lbs, short dark
receding hair, wearing a black sweater and black jeans, and dark dress shoes.
Anyone with information regarding these thefts or the identity of the suspect is asked to
contact Detective Constable Brian Stacey at 52 Division Major Crime at 416-808-5206 or
Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 or 416-222-8477.

Images of the suspect have been caught on tape. Copies of the surveillance images are on a
CD and can be picked up at Corporate Communications.

These guys are pro's.

I read somewhere that to become pro- they have a 'final exam.'

Bells are hooked up to all pockets/purses, and in order to 'graduate,' you have to pick all the pockets without sounding a bell. :| :(

Thanks for the heads up.

I was watching some show and they were interviewing a former pick pocket. They said the chest pocket is the best place to have a wallet. Then the inside chest pocket. Back pocket is the worst.

Actually it comes from a Charles Dickens book (before movies, there were books). IIRC it was in David Copperfield.

EDIT: Small World!! http://www.ellopos.net/dickens/copperfield_text.htm
