It's a habit you need to learn from the time you're very young.

usually wash once in the bathroom and again when all is done.

just thinking about all the germs you touch, say the door, desks, chairs, etc etc.

Yes, I always do, but then, I tend to be a germ freak - not OCD, but as soon as I come home from being out anywhere, the first thing I do is wash my hands. So yes, yes, a thorough hand washing is a must after using the washroom, right down to not touching anything in the washroom, such as door handle, afterwards.

I think a more appropriate question would be to ask if one washes their hands properly. Splashing your hands with water for a couple of seconds doesn't count. You need to scrub your hands with soap for a good 25-30 seconds. Of course all that work goes to waste when you end up touching the door to leave the washroom (especially at work where you see people leaving the stalls and heading straight out the door :) ).

I worked in a hospital before so I'm a wash freak. I don't do the 20 seconds (waste of water really). Just warm water, soap, scrub the fingernails a little, pull down the paper towel to dry my fingers and then turn off the tap using the towel. I also use the towel to open the door.
If there's no towel, I linger about 5 seconds for someone to open the door or use clothing to open the door. I KNOW lots of guy co-workers who don't wash their hands after doing a #2. Absolutely disgusting.

Remember Poppie being a bit sloppy on senifeld?

I just love the no touch washrooms with no door handles to touch or buttons on the dryers or taps to open like the one in Eatons centre by old navy.
They are becoming popular in all the malls that are renovating now. I know bramalea city centre has 2 such washrooms already as they continue to change from the old technology to the new.

This is much easier to do than try to change the habits of non handwashers who have gotten accustomed to not doing it for year.
More sanitary in that the non handwashers don't need to touch anything that the handwashers may have to which is great.

The no touch dryers encourages people who wash their hands to use the dryer instead of paper towels which they may otherwise have to use to open doors and turn off the taps etc so it's good for the environment too in that it saves trees.

There are even no touch paper towel dispensers too which is cool. The only time is use towels in no touch bathrooms are when they have these as i just like not only the concept but how it works.

i'm a compulsive hand washer. i like to wash my hands alot, but i feel thats one of the reasons i rarely get sick.

We also have a guy who washes his hands compulsively (He goes to the extreme of not using the hand dryers, only paper towel, cleans his desk daily with anti-bacterial ****, etc....) and he gets sick more than anyone I know.

So unfortunately, I don't think this is a fair correlation.

In fact, I could've swore studies have been done to show how there are more germs in other public places than a washroom...

I rarely see people Washing their hands... its more of just running
some water over their hands or nothing at all.

But Maybe they have figured out how to NOT use their hands?!

I wash my hands ALL the time.

Honestly, in this day and age I can't believe that some people just don't wash their hands. Imagine that... professors, intellectuals, top business people... folks with all the brains in the world. But when it comes to something so simple as washing their hands, it's a no go. They just haven't figured out anything about basic personal hygiene.

Unbelievable really...

I wash my hand after using the washroom. I always use soap. I don't need to turn on or off the tap in my office building (and a lot of new washrooms) because it is automatic. Even the paper towel dispenser is automatic. Hence, I am not touching anyway after I wash my hands.

So, when I am in my office building, I go for the leak. Wash my hand with soap. Dry my hands with paper towel. Use the paper towel to open the washroom door. Use the paper towel to open the office door. Throw the paper towel to the garbage. .... Then, I put my fingers to the dirtiest keyboard of the world ... my 10+ years old keyboard which contains a lot of my DNA. :)

Wash my hands every single time. But I don't usually do it properly. Soap, most of the time. But I don't go get a paper towel, and then turn off the tap. That's a bit too much effort. :)

btw, I do about 99% of the time. I'm sure i've missed it once or twice before. :cheesygri

Last time I checked, urine was germ free. So how the hell does not washing your hands after you piss spread germs?

You can insert your foot in your mouth now.

Although Urine is germ free, it attracts germs.

Lets ask you this, would you drink or touch someone else's piss? Let alone your's?

And warm beer doesn't count.

You make a valid point. Though I would argue that rinsing your hands without soap is, at least, slightly better than not rinsing at all.

I strongly disagee.
It just spreads it all over to hand.

Yes, and an even better question would be: Who uses antibacterial soap, lathers thoroughly, and washes off their hands under WARM water for at least 15 seconds?

How does urine attract germs more than other objects/liquids/substances?

i'm a compulsive hand washer. i like to wash my hands alot, but i feel thats one of the reasons i rarely get sick.

I totally second that.

My family decided to get a dog, I'd wash my hands every time the dog grazes my fingers.

After going to public washrooms, I always push out some papertowels from the dispenser thingies before washing my hands, then i'd rip that out and dry my hands and use the papertowel to turn the tap off and to open the door to go outside...

And I wash my hands before and after eating... regardless of if i'm using my hands to ear or not.... and after using public transportation!

bleh too many situations to mention
