Since I can't go during the week, I always go Saturday night with my CAA coupon. There's usually no-one there after 7. I'll put pics up on my Blog (http://www.onthehoist.com) if there's something out of the ordinary, but I normally don't make entries about new cars as there are plenty of others who do.

Can anyone post the $5 coupon

Saturday for me

Citi MasterCard is NOT a coupon, you buy the tickets (e-tickets, and print them)
http://www.autoshow.ca/Citi
I did it last night, 2 tickets, $30

or you can always try the $30 2-day pass (2 tickets, so basically $15 each)

I wish I could go, but the tickets are a little too high.
My teacher said one auto teacher is taking the students for $10+3(transportation fees). He said something to do with student discount. I wish I could go, went 2002, 2003, 2004... 2005 not sure. :(

sorry, forgot to ask :)

Do we need coupon for Nissan's free parking (from Nissan dealer)?

or just go to the parking location and park w/o anything required (and take shuttle to the show)

My last time was 2 yrs ago, so I can go this time. Last time I don't recall needing any coupon for parking

If it's like last year, you park in the lot and pick up the coupon from the Nissan area at the car show.

Does this mean that if 2 adults are going in on the same day you can just buy a 2 day pass and each person can use a ticket on the same day? Or does each ticket have to be used on separate days?

Anyone know where non citi mastercard holders can get the $5 off coupons for during the week? I know they used to have them either in the Toronto Star or Sun but not sure if they only have it in the weekend paper or if they may have it in the Weekday newspapers also as i only get the Sunday Sun. If anyone can confirm whether they saw it in any of the weekend newspapers it would be greatly appreciated.

I threw out my Sun from last weekend already without checking to see if there was one.

I need 2 coupons.

If I purchase a toronto sun or toronto star newspaper today will the coupon be on the back page???

Also is it only for weekday admission??? Or can I use it today?

Feb 19th, 2005, 10:41 AM
I am thinking the citi Mastercard $5 off can be used fro what ever day you wish to go including weekends.

The coupons in the newspaper however are usually only for weekdays.

I was hoping someone who picked up a toronto star today with auto section might be able to confirm if there is a coupon in it and when i get my sunday sun tomorrow with the car section i would confirm if it has the coupon so if anyone wants to get one they can go out and but the newspaper.

If no reponse on the toronto star i might just go out and get one later to check for myself.

Still a good saving if you have to buy the newspapers though as you'll still get $3.50 off per ticket providng both weekend newspapers are still $1.50.

Just looked throught the sunday sun but no autoshow coupons.

Guess they made a deal with the organizers not to give out many coupons this year or maybe they would only put it in the weekday papers to boost sales.

Will go tomorrow and buy the 2 times pass and me and my brother will just use one ticket each.

Queen's Quay West, between York & Simcoe on north side. Just pay your deposit. On shuttle, driver will hand out Nissan coupon. Keep safely to hand parking lot attendant upon leaving to get your deposit back.

Hi there,

Just want to let ppl know that you could probably get weekday $5 coupons from Petro canada:

http://www.petro-canada.ca/eng/prodserv/fuels/10960.htm

"Get $5 off weekday admission (Monday-Thursday) to the AutoShow. Coupons are available at 375 Petro-Canada gas stations in southern Ontario. "

I haven't picked up the coupons yet, but the web sites didn't say you need to have gas purchase in order to get it, so you might want to try. :cheesygri

I posted my comments and some links to reviews on my site (http://www.onthehoist.com) and copy them here for you guys.

MSN Autos http://en.autos.sympatico.msn.ca/as/minishow/default.aspx?s=cias2005

Canadian Driver: http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/05toronto/index.htm (Also has good coverage of Detroit and Los Angeles shows)

For some reason the Toronto Star coverage is subscriber-only so no bother going or linking there

My comments on a variety of newer models:
Ford

Freestyle: The Freestyle has an OK interior and will most likely sell well. The dash/console are fine. There were, however, some obvious issues with the models displayed at the show. The leather seats seem cheap and likely to crack/split in a few years. The driver-side door sill (plastic)on the grey vehicle on display was loose and about to come off. Hopefully these will not be common issues.

500: It was nice to finally see the 500 as it wasn't at last year's show. It isn't a bad-looking vehicle. There is tons on interior room and a cavernous trunk. The only comment beside the earlier post on D3 platform problems is that is appears 3 of the spark plugs are buried at the back of the engine. Hopefully they are easier to access than it appears.

Mustang: IT was nice to see that Ford had brought a base model Mustang to the show and I have to say the car seems very well executed. Time will tell how reliable it is but the first impression is really impressive. Seems lie a steak at $24k.

Escape: Only visible issue on the Escape is the cheap plastic panel to the left of the driver's footwell. It was cracked on the display model I sat in.

2006 Lincoln Zephyr: The Zephyr is a good-looking concept vehicle. Nicer, in my opinion, than any of the low-end Jaguar models.

Nissan

Quest: I'd heard about the strange controls in this vehicle, but WOW are they ever counterintuitive. I was not the only one to think so..Several people inspecting the van made the same comment. The dials seem chintzy. What is the reason for the cubby space located right above the driver's feet? My shins were pressed up against it and anything kept there could easily fall and roll under the pedals.

X-Trail: Nice vehicle, the X-Trail, probably a good alternative to the Subaru Forester. Bargain basement headrests..you can feel the seatback flex when you put your head on one.

Honda

The 2006 Civic concept that was in Chicago was not at the CIAS.

CRV: No legroom at all in that thing.

Acura RSX: I can't believe I fit in that car. I could never fit in an Integra. I also fit in a SMART car, but no in a Mini.

GM

Pontiac Pursuit/Chevy Cobalt: The initial impression one gets is better than the old Sunfire/Cavalier, but once you sit in one for a few minutes it becomes quite obvious that these are not made for long drives. The seats (cloth) don't offer any support. The interior is still cheap plastic, nowhere near its Japanese competitors. Wait for big discounts on these in a few months.

G6:Same comment as above for the seats and interior. The black interior in the 06 sedan is nicer than the look of the greys. What's up with the wacky steering wheel? Closer, but still no cigar.

Cadillac CTS:Base model is now $34000?? Maybe they're feeling the heat from the Chrysler 300.

Volkswagen

New Jetta:As usual the interior is well-executed. The front end looks good a la BMW. The rear is a different story.

Audi A3:I don't get it..I also don't get the Mercedes 230 coupe..There is way more value and even performance in much less expensive vehicles. You are paying a high price for the name..nothing else.

Kia

Sportage: I was pleasantly surprised by this solid-feeling vehicle/sister to the Hyundai Tucson. Only negative comment is the cheap plastic on the centre stack.

Other Comments

Kudos to Hyundai and Chrysler for actually having base models on display at the show. Many manufacturers only show the upscale models.

BMW let's us sit in the Z4, Porsche lets us sit in the boxer, but Lexus has all its doors locked including the ES300? Please explain that one to me.

Without trying, I heard the following:
Ford rep on the floor loudly explaining to another about how one of the other reps keeps disappearing and hanging out at other manufacturers displays
Two Chrysler reps swearing their heads off in a loud conversation
A Toyota rep who had no idea whether a manual transmission is available on the Solara.

Does anyone know what the song Audi was playing on the screen was? I got that stuck in my head and would like to get a copy of that song. it goes something like "the world of tomorrow, i'll do anything , i'll go anywhere..." Someone please help. I think they had the most impressive layout at the autoshow.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=o_nRLCmXgfg&search=audi%20

what's that song in the video?

anyone know that song from the new Lexus IS350 commercial? East-indian vocalist with a techno music background beat.

or that BMW 3-series commercial where it goes "Look me in the eyes and tell me...", its got an upbeat rock tune to it. then zooms in on the angel eyes.

any help would be appreciated. :)

Sorry, it's their new CCX. First was the CC8, Then the CCR, now the CCX to try and take back the fastest car title from Bugatti. They leaked pictures on the geneva site yesterday, but it looks like they've been taken down until the official unveiling.

N/M, autoblog still has them at http://spanish.autoblog.com/2006/02/18/fotografandiacute-as-del-koenigsegg-ccx/
