Gamecube for sure. RE4 is a great game and Mario kart is a lotta fun. If you buy the xbox and want multiplayer, you're gonna have to buy a subscription to xbox live

Definitely, definitely the GameCube; way more exclusives, and they are the best of any console (I am not counting PS2 exclusives that end up on PC).

I disagree.
I've found the Xbox a much better system.
So far MArio Sunshine is the only GC exclusive that I felt was a good game. The rest have all been letdowns. Zelda Wind Waker I thought was a huge let down, and was actually pretty boring. Mario Kart I thought was a step back as far as the series went. The tracks for the most part I found boring. Metroid even I didn't enjoy. I just couldn't take the lack of a 2nd analog stick for looking around. Just drove me mad having to hold a button down so that I could look around.

I've got to vote Nintendo as well. Just look at all the great titles they have. (And Carnage, so far Mario Sunshine is the game that has let me down - otherwise, I've found all the titles I've played so far to be great! :)).

I have a PS2, an Xbox and a Gamecube...
and I run it all on a 52 inch
I must say.....Xbox is the way to gooooo...especially for online gaming.....but I guess nintendo would be better for the family......
but all-around I would have to say Xbox......(especially with halo2)

I agree. Get both as the GCN is pretty damn cheap these days and the Xbox isn't too pricey either.
Xbox - better graphics, better sound, Xbox Live, more M-rated and action titles.
GCN - some great exclusives which have a sense of "whimsical fun" when playing them that you can't find on other consoles, especially their multiplayer "family" type games. Also, GCN's graphics, while generally not quite to par as Xbox (Resident Evil 4 aside), are still pretty damn good and superior to PS2. The virtual lack of online play could be a major disadvantage if that concerns you.

I have both - I give my vote to the Gamecube - much better games - gets way more play. (love my wavebird controllers too) But Xbox is good too - basically only have it for online play which is very nice - though if you don't have time to play constantly its pretty hard to slide in with the experts.

Xbox - better graphics, better sound, Xbox Live, more M-rated and action titles. Why would you say that the Xbox has better sound? I've got no complaints about surround sound (with supported titles, obviously) on the Gamecube. Most games support it, as well as 480p - looks great on the projector, and sounds great on the home theatre.
And not all games are whimsical fun either. There's more than enough "M" games for me (currently having a blast with X-Men Legends), and Mario Party 6 and Mario Kart get all kinds of play when the guys come over.
I have no complaint, really, against any current generation console for gaming. Essentially it comes down to the games, and I can see how any of the three could appeal to people. But when it came time to buy, I looked at the available titles for each console, and Nintendo had the most I knew I'd play. The list of "must-have" games that were exclusive to PS2 or Xbox (or to both but not GCN) was pitifully small. People have said the exact opposite. And yes, I will acknowledge Nintendo's sore lack of support for any kind of online play.
Take a look at what games you want, and get the console that supports the majority of them.

Why would you say that the Xbox has better sound?
Dolby Digital 5.1 on the Xbox versus 2.0 on the Nintendo. Isn't it obvious?

I didn't say that all of the GCN titles had this, I said "some." And MP6 and MK are the very definition of whimsical fun. You do realize this is a good thing, right? I love those games.

Another vote for Gamecube (unless you're gonna hack your Xbox then for sure, Xbox gets my vote). Has way better exclusives and Xbox titles somehow end up on the PC eventually.

Dolby Digital 5.1 on the Xbox versus 2.0 on the Nintendo. Isn't it obvious?Well, if the Nintendo only had 2.0, then yes. But I'm enjoying surround sound out of most games so far (even Mario Party, which doesn't really need it :)). The Dolby ProLogic II is quite impressive, with encoded material. In both cases, the surround is only for games that support it.

1. Xbox supports DD5.1 in game in almost all its games.
If you have a DD5.1 setup then you're fooling yourself by not getting an xbox. It's a totally different ballgame when playing Rainbow Six 3, Halo 2, Ghost Recon, or any racing game. In the shooting games, you can perfectly pinpoint where enemies are through the amazing 5.1 sound. In racing games, you can distinctly hear different engines and determine when someone is coming up behind you. In Halo 2 and Rainbow Six 3, when playing on Xbox Live even when talking with other people online is in DD5.1. If I one of my friends is to my right in the game, his voice will come out of the right side when he talks to me.
2. HDTV 1080i support.
If you have an HDTV set then nuff said.
3. Mods.
If you do not plan on making use of Xbox Live then you should mod your xbox. With a mod chip and larger hard drive, you can basically turn your xbox into a multi media centre. You can watch movies and listen to sound in ALL formats. All you need to do is run the latest Xbox Media Centre and your all set. I download a lot from my PC and with Xbox Media Centre and a wireless bridge connected to the Xbox, I can browse shared drives from my PC and watch the shows I download through my Home Theatre system. Watching them on HDTV with DD5.1 sound is definitely a lot better than on my 19" LCD. Another big plus with a modded xbox is Emulators. I have NES, SNES, MAME, Genesis, Ultra 64, etc running on my xbox.
4. Xbox Live.
I have been on Xbox Live ever since it started and have been playing every week with my friends and it definitely beats playing on your own.
Oh yeah, why not get both? They're basically giving the GC away anyways. :cheesygri But remember, with the price of the GC and PS2, you have to add in Memory card otherwise you won't be able to save anything. You'll never have to worry about that with the Xbox.

1. Xbox supports DD5.1 in game in almost all its games. This would be a cool feature.
If you have a DD5.1 setup then you're fooling yourself by not getting an xbox. It's a totally different ballgame when playing Rainbow Six 3, Halo 2, Ghost Recon, or any racing game.Other than racing games, none of the games you mentioned hold any interest for me (and yes, I've tried them - friends have Xboxes. :)).
In racing games, you can distinctly hear different engines and determine when someone is coming up behind you.I have that now on the Cube...
In Halo 2 and Rainbow Six 3, when playing on Xbox Live even when talking with other people online is in DD5.1. If I one of my friends is to my right in the game, his voice will come out of the right side when he talks to me.That's actually pretty slick.
2. HDTV 1080i support.
If you have an HDTV set then nuff said.I think that's also a game-by-game support, although likely newer ones are showing more support for HDTV resolutions. Until then, I'm still happy enough with 480p from the Dreamcast and Gamecube. :)
3. Mods.
If you do not plan on making use of Xbox Live then you should mod your xbox.No desire to do either. Don't even know what games I'd play on Live with friends (plus its not free, either). In fact, why mod my Xbox? I can watch movies on the DVD player, and does the Xbox even make a decent PVR?

Can your dvd player play DivX, Xvid, MKV, RM, RMVB, MPG, etc? And extract the stereo sound to output as DD5.1? Connect to the internet and listen to stations on Shoutcast or watch TV through the net? I'm just informing ca1n the benefits of the Xbox and not trying to start another old dumbass console war in which kiddies seem to enjoy. It's getting old and tiring and not worth my time.

Definitely go with whichever console has the games you're looking for! (for me, that's Gamecube all the way! :D )

I thought ca1n was asking the question. He was, but I think it was geared more towards gaming.
Can your dvd player play DivX, Xvid, MKV, RM, RMVB, MPG, etc?Well, no. But why would I want it to? I have DVD's, I use a DVD player. If I had DivX or whatever, then maybe it would be useful.
dumbass console war in which kiddies seem to enjoy. It's getting old and tiring and not worth my time. That's why I stick by my earlier post saying "Look at the games you want to play. Buy the console that you can play them on". Hell, Burnout 3 is AWESOME, I was tempted to get the Xbox just for that one game...

No Square/Enix is firmly on Sony's side. They did a crappy Final Fantasy Chronicles for the GC (which REQUIRED you to have 3 GBA plus a link cable for each) for co-op play. Added nothing to the game IMHO.
Although, one of the FF creators have moved and made his own company. He seems to be firmly on Nintendo's side (his 1st game will be an RPG for the DS).
