It's Official: No Xbox 2 at GDC
>> From Reuters.com:

Microsoft Corp. will not unveil the next generation of its Xbox video game console at the Game Developers Conference in March, the company said on Monday.
Citing a conversation with Microsoft management, American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy said the company was more likely to take the wraps off its new console in May at the broader Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.
A Microsoft spokeswoman confirmed McNealy's report that the new Xbox would not be shown off at GDC.

The new Xbox, code-named "Xenon," is widely expected within the industry to launch later this year. Microsoft has said little publicly about it, though, and on a conference call last week suggested there would be little news until E3.

Got to wait till E3, can't wait to see what it looks like. :)

I just hope it's not the size of a filing cabinet.

I thought I read somewhere that it's supposed to include less "stuff" then XBOX. Like no Hard Drive (???). Something like that, to make it smaller... Also won't use Blueray/HD-DVD like Sony.

I heard it might be using flash memory or something smaller and cheaper instead of an hard drive.

In any case, I won't be getting a next gen console for a few years until they're well into their life cycle. I didn't get my Xbox until June 2003. I find whenever a console comes out, there are a few games at launch that are awesome, followed by a year or so of mediocre games. Years 2-4 after launch usually feature the greatest games.

I love my Xbox but if PS3 (or whatever Nintendo has) ends up being better than Xbox2, I wouldn't hesitate to jump ship.

I'm more hyped up about the Nintendo Revolution (next nintendo console). its rumored to have a hard drive, backwards compatability (this has been confirmed by Nintendo), dual processors and built in broadband modem. also its media will be HD-DVD and rumors say its not ognna have traditional A/B buttons. also, nintendo might use gyroscopic (sp?) controllers. Nintendo said that the console will be revolutionary. for a sample of revolutionary, look at teh DS. the revolution wont have a touchpad, touch screen or anything of the sort on its controllers (Confirmed by Nintendo)

The PS3 will have its cell processor and thats about it. no backwards compatability, no hard drive. nothing.

Xenon (xbox2) wont be backwards compatable (confirmed by MS), wont have a hard drive (also confirmed by MS) and thats all tahts known.

That's going to make it allmost as powerfull as an Xbox.

yeah, sure xbox does have those things, but the games on xbox arent that great. sure tehres halo 1/2, but halo 1 is on pc and actually better on pc (bug fixes, more weapons, better multiplayer easier to mod) and im 100% sure that halo 2 will make it to pc sooner or later. PS2, same thing except with halo, theres the gta series. nintendo has the best first party games and the best controllers (you know it). I couldnt care less which has the best graphics or best hardware (aside from broadband modem and harddrive), its teh games that make the system and nintendo, in my opinion, has by far the best games on its systems

I prefer PS2 games. More variety (although crappier graphics by far).
I'm gonna wait for all 3 to be out before I plunk my dough on one.
From what I'm hearing, Sony is doing a much better job educating their developers this time around as evidenced by the easy to code for PSP.

Graphics are not such a huge factor as in the first generation of 3d consoles. The way it is playing out now...ps3, xbox2 and I dunno, the super nintendo sphere? Nintendo has a lot of catching up to do. xbox in general need some other games then halo. ps3 will be on top cause of squaresoft and the other third parties.

Nintendo has a lot of catching up to do.They totally dropped the soap as far as online capabilities - to be able to play a lot of their stuff online with others would have made a big difference. But their software library is top notch - I think especially Xbox has a lot of catching up to do with their titles. PS2 has good stuff, but the overwhelming dearth of crap that is also available can overshadow that. Sure, it has the largest game library, but the ratio of good-to-crap games is pretty awful.
