This is my first input as a new redflag member so I hope someone lets me know if I got it right. Someone had a question about directbuy.com. I have just finished an excelent article on it at www.towngreenmedia.com/wilton/articles/?id=3553&c=3
Hope this helps. It did for me.

rsssas: Excellent article, I appreciate the time you have taken to do the research. A very objective and cool-minded review.

There are lots of messages about Direct Buy. I though I would add my 2 cents since I have detailed knowledge (business consultant)

1) You can save money, but it depends on what you are looking for (higher end stuff)
2) To pay back the membership you need to buy a lot (say 15-20k to make it really worth your while)
3) Most people don't use it enough
4) You can't see the stuff, and delivery takes time

+1

It's like joining a cult that costs you $4-5K up front.

You save a lot of money & yes you have to buy a lot of stuff for it to be worth it. Many people that join & then don't buy enough complain that it's a rip off:rolleyes: which is not true...those people should never have joined in the first place:!: It's not for everybody ;)

Anything that you want to buy at DB you can see in other stores/showrooms & you have to do your research...many manufacturers have showrooms that you can see their products. Yes delivery takes time but so does ordering from The Brick or Leons:idea:

If you have two young families, you can definitely share the membership. I have heard of others that have done something similar. How do you get away with buying two fridges or two sofas? Tell them you are buying for your home and cottage.

People who discount the service are people who haven't purchased enough...

can members shop online? or a least view catalogues online?

Yes - they do have their catalogues online. You can also order online, haven't done it yet.

Yes you can view prices online...but when ordering, I prefer to go in person. Never tried online...plus online ordering is for certain items only.

Run like hell is right.

Probably easier to buy stuff from Home Depot/Costco/Sams club in the US and pay the tax on the import.

I wonder how you can buy Granite countertops then...LOL

it would be cheaper to buy items in the US, but then you can also use DB in the US.

I would be wary of buying electronics in the US unless the warranty applied here.
