Okay, so I've searched RFD on FS & PSPs, but haven't found anything on DVD players. I bought my Samsung S221 two years ago at $139 and apparently paid $50 for the PSP for four years. Yes, that was stupid. Anyway, within the last month it's stopped playing one out of every two DVDs I want to play, so I guess I need to take it back to FS. Has anybody returned a DVD player on a PSP? Are they going to really test it for 60 days before replacing it, or am I going to walk in with a broken one and walk out with a new replacement?
Second question: the model is long discontinued, obviously, and the local FS doesn't have a Samsung in-stock cheaper than $170. Do they give out replacements on DVD players based on price? I know for computers they do it by features b/c prices change so much, but what about DVD players? Any input would be helpful. I'm absolutely dreading this; I have this feeling that they're going to take it for the 60 days then say that nothing's wrong with it. Tips? Advice?

With most items, they'll try to repair before they replace. It usually doesn't take 60 days. You might want to look at the PSP pamphlet you received to see if it's straight exchange for a defective item. Also, if it is a straight exchange, they'll make you wait for tech to have a look at it. I had to wait over an hour once.
Also, if the model is discountinued, FS's policy has always been replace with a unit that has 'similar features.' From experience, they'll try to give you a $20 Nova DVD player or the like, so be prepared to argue.

Indeed. I spent a few hours @ FS trying to get a 'similar features' DVD player replacement a few years ago. We ended up getting a player that was better than they were initialy offering and two free DVDs. It was a big hassle.
PS The FS salesperson had the nerve to try and sell us an extened warranty on the replacement.

Anyone think it is worth it to Buy the extended warranty on those Yamaha Speakers?
$20 gets you 9 years of coverage.

If it was 2 years ago, it's probably 30 days to repair. And if they can't fix it, then it's a "comparable" DVD player, probably the lowest Samsung they carry at the time.

I too have the exact same dvd player for about two years now . What exactly happened to your dvd player? Or it just suddenly stop playing half of the discs?

depends how how expensive your speakers are.... but from my experience... speakers almost never breakdown...unless of course... you give it TOO MUCH juice.

Futureshop PSP's are a joke. Do not invest. Buy your expensive electronics elsewhere...may I recommend Costco. Let's compare return policies.
Futureshop: pay money for psp = one of the sketchiest return policies in business.
Costco: bring it back. anytime.

I've returned a wide variety of items, from digi cam to comp electronics, they all took it back with no question asked. Most of their item is overpriced but their return policy is quite good. It might be just ur store.

Got back from Christmas vacation to find a half-functional DVD player. For example, Master & Commander, which I got for Christmas from my in-laws, refused to work on it. The replacement I got (Pioneer) runs it w/o any problems.
Anyway. They wanted to send it away, but I managed to convince a manager to exchange it for a different model. They actually did have a single-slot Samsung in-store, but the guy didn't see it, so I got to pick out a Pioneer 275-S. No problems with Master & Commander or Napoleon Dynamite (another movie that wouldn't play); it doesn't work with my Sony universal remote, but it works pretty well as far as I could see, and it didn't cost me a penny.
They wanted me to buy the PSP again, but there's no way I'm paying $40 for a $100 DVD player if all they're going to do is repair it. If this one dies, I'm building a PVR. Anyway, thanks for the replies!

Wow, how did you convince them to give you the replacement right off the bat?

I stood there and refused to move, pretty much. It helped that the sales associate, when I bought the DVD player, told me that I could just exchange it if it became damaged with the PSP. They didn't believe me, but she went to talk to a manager anyway and they let me go ahead with the exchange ("But never again!")
