Driving myself crazy, searching for my first digital camera.

I have been looking at the Canon A75, A85, A95. Some people (other camera forum) have mentioned small glitches with the A75. Another one is the Fuji Finepix F610. Future Shop had a good Boxing Day deal on the F610, but they are sold out. I am a amateur photographer who enjoys taking pics of family/friends, pets, action, travel/landscape and night scenes (city, fireworks etc). I know there probably isn't a perfect cameras out there, but can someone recommend one to me. What do you think of the above cameras? Would like one with a zoom lens. Other brands/models welcome. Thanks! I should mention that my price range is from $200.00-450.00.

You should take a look at Sony I have owned 3 of them and I have never had a problem with them yet.

What sort of glitches are you talking about? I say A75 is one of the better cameras for the price. Great quality and lots of options.

Sony and Olympus use expensive storage cards, not the SD or compact flash kinds. I recently picked up a Canon a75 on boxing day for $250.

Btw, what glitches are there? I want to look out for those.

I can't believe the A75 is so cheap. I got it back in August and it cost me $399.

I like the A75 b/c it does what i need. I only need 3.2 MP b/c I only print 6 by 4. It accpets CF cards which i got already for my mp3 player. If you wanna spend more, take a look at A85 or the A95.

Pictures quality is excellent. They are as good as the photographer (which doesn't take the best pic all the time).

I can't remember the forum, but some of the complaints were: Hard time focusing in low lighting, poor picture quality, zooms too fast, severe purple fringing (night time pics). Someone else mentioned something about a E18 error? I realize that everyone has likes and dislikes about cameras. So if you think the A75 is a good camera, I will go for it.

Gosh, another vote here for the A75; that's what I have, and I love it; it has the right amount of MP {3.2}, is has an action mode - VERY important for me to take great shots of my active kids. It has full TV size digital video [up to 30 seconds in full size, up to 3 minutes in small mode I think it is.] Takes an inexpensive compact flash card, slow battery drainage [rechargeables.] CLEAR, sharp, NOT grainy, or green, or yellow hued photos. There is nothing I enjoy more, electronic-wise, than my Canon A-75. I have no use for any model higher. {Not that I would complain if I ever won one, LOL! But I do honestly find that this is a great camera. The price last Dec. was at around $379 or higher! I guess the only additional feature I would find helpful would be a camera that could take photos with a faster response time, sometimes the moment is gone before I can open the lens and shoot, LOL! But no, no real complaints. I had owned 3 other cameras prior to this one. 1 Kodak and 2 HP. I liked this one best of all. {A75.)

if you don't blow up a picture more than 5x7 go for the canon a60. i think henry's has a refurb for under 140. it's a 2mp camera but has all the manual features as the old a70 which the a75 replaced. i've had mine for a year and had no problems. love the fact it takes AA batteries and uses a cf card.

Just a note on the refurbished one at Henrys (and FS), it does not come with the CF card.
