i saw a store carrying it [presumeably] at pacific mall.
it's dvd9 though, so backups will be using dual-layer, not sure if it'll work.

are you serious it's CARRYING IT ALREADY? omg....i can't find a thing about it on the net.....maybe i'm outdated.....i saw one broadcasting a demo of the game...but i also have teh demo.
if they have it.....they must be bringing it in from china........omg...............PACIFIC MALL TOMORROW.
my ps2 is pretty new....one and a half year old..so HOPEFULLY it will work on dual layer. it's a hk system...so if not..i'll import it..the game is WORTH IMPORTING ppl...it's BEAUTIFUl.

Just a reminder...
-Will (obviously) need a modded PS2
-Remember the Regions and if you have some type of converter PAL to NTSC
-The Chinese version is PAL
-The Japanese version is NTSC J
and...Please add any more suggestions...

thx...hk version...for some reason isn't PAL....according to the forums i read. however, the american logitech pro wheel does not work with the HK version of the game.
=) and yeah...must have a modded system to play..and should be....a relatively new system, not a 3 year old one, coz a lot of those simply don't work reading the retail version of the game.

i will buy this game when it is finally released in north america, in the INDEFINATE future. heck im even up on the pre-order.
since i know the dual layer disc is outin some shops in HK, im wondering if anyone knows if the backup is released in pac mall or "similar" venues...
im looking for that version thats on those silver discs and have that cheezy bubble-jet printed insert.. the ones they hide under the counter...
From what i have gathered, there are 2; 6-7gig versions out on the net, however neither of them get past the "be a safe driver" screen.. but now im hearing that it just depends how it is burned, or on what equipment.. As of last weekend, pac mall wasn't selling gt4 yet, because of these technical difficulties.
the chinese version will also be ntsc, just as the mandarian chinese version of prologue i have.
it will prob be the first dual layer disc to be sold (from under the counter) unless they have silvers.. which i would prefer..
cheers to anyone that knows.

no it will require a system that reads asian regions.. like jap discs only work in jap ps2, etc..
BUT, should it not work.. you can sell the bootleg to me. :cheesygri

the chinese pressed copy is released @ pac mall as of last week,
all the stores on the first floor share stock, they all are charging $25/copy and they are all SOLD OUT as of sunday Jan 16th, they may be back instock this week or next.
the small mom/pop ps2 shop upstairs in that 'heritage town' thing also has it, they have 5 copies left, but want $40 EACH.
for a bootleg, this is getting rediculous,
i told them all to suck it.

Bootleg or legit it's the same thing. Game plays as if it's legit. Nothing is ripped. The difference is you don't get the manual that you don't use. Regardless if it's legit or bootleg it's still a rip off.

this game is dual layer > 4.5gig and its been burned and failed from 3 diff rip groups, so, thats a no go.. thats why they are importing pressed dvd copies from china/hk because the burned dual layer ones don't work. not to mention that the bootleg shop cost for these are far cheaper than blank dual-layer media anyway....
the hours and talent that went into this game is by far more than any other ps2 title. i wanted the jap/chinese copy to tie me down until the offical NA release, but i guess i will save my other $35 and buy the original. at $40 thats only another $20 away from the orginal..

Got my hands on a pressed version from HK (cousin brought it back for me a couple weeks ago)....
This game is also a bit more expensive compared to the others due to the fact they are DVD9. IT was about $50 HKD (~ $8-9 CDN) i tried to burn a copy....wont work....the system wont seem to read beyond the first layer....
The PS2 logo comes up, and then the Sony copyrights loads up but after that it wont read anymore....
A very nice game that blows GT3s doors off....for hard-core players...i'll say $25 is worth it.....but since its only like 1 1/2 b4 the US version comes out....those that can wait shoud......i'll be getting the US version once its out

Not really true. For more complicated games like sim genre, manuals are useful.(play-asia.com listed the manual for this game is 210 pages.....) Obviously the real deals hold value better for resell compare to only media worth bootlegs. Not to mention for sure would last hella longer if you plan to keep them for long time.

And you should be prepared to be in trouble as well. The authorities don't seem to mind downloads as much as folks selling/sharing their illicit wares. Guy in Vancouver was alright until he decided to package backups as part of his modchip installs. He got done in as soon as he started advertising on the 'Net.

What are you talking about? The car list on the american site? That's not a complete list.....
GT4 American version will at least have the same cars as the Asian one, but whether or not it'll have the extra cars from the PAL version and the "fixes" is still unknown.

It's been out in Asia for a while yet nobody has been able to crack it.
It's a AAA title that the developers have put a lot of time and effort into (over 6 years in the making). Give 'em some well deserved $$ instead of pirating
