For Staples to pricematch, doesn't the futureshop item have to show instock on their website?

Just worked for me. When to B&M Staples with web printout, FS had none on the website but they made a call to Local FS and they had them in stock, so they gave it to me for 8.51.
Thanks

NO.... if ur local FS (use "check store stock" button on website) HAS stock (i.e. green checkmark), then u can just show them printed out flyer webpage and they *should* give it to u for PM'ed price.... but i CANNOT guarantee anything, since when staples end up losing LOTS of $$$, they reject ur a$$ on the spot....!

I saw this in store today and thought about PM but didn't have a printout and was too lazy to fight for it at the time. I also saw the same package in FS next door so I know they both had stock.
Question: What if I go to Staples and they try to call FS to confirm but nobody answers? I've been trying to call FS to confirm that they still have some to PM but nobody is answering the phones...

well if ur FS is "next door" to staples, can't u just tell staples to get another employee to just "go walk over next door" to check stock .... to get the PM.... or just say that u "just checked at FS MYself 5 min ago... so theres no need for u to fone up or check...so gimme the PM!"....

Price matched it.....
few questions:
1) can they limit your quantity?
2) can they pull it off of the shelves?
I think they can limit your quantity, but cant pull it off of the shelves....but whatever, I got 100 cd-rs for ~$9

Dont bother w/ empress staples...I just picked up the last one on the shelf and when the manager saw the price she freaked out :cheesygri , So I doubt any more are going up at that price. The futureshop on empress has a lot on the shelf priced at 29.99 so the pm is still open if you can find any staples carrying them. Thanks for the deal.

Buy it as Staples, then go to FS, buy it there, then go to Staples within 5 minutes to do the PM (having a receipt so recent would mean that its in stock), then return it as FS.

Wicked post man. Just came back from Staples at Hwy 401 and Weston Rd. Once I showed them the print out, they were astonished at the price. They price matched it no problem, and the manager was laughing when the final price showed $9. She said she was amazed I was the first one to come there and PM it. They have more in stock, so go PM it!!

I got the PM too, but I didn't really need them. I got mine done at the pembina Staples in Winnipeg. There were only two on the shelf. The girl at the till walked over to the futureshop that is nextdoor. She said she didn't see them on the shelf. I went back over to future shop with her to show her them. She came back and punched it in the till. She called the manager over and he was busy, so he didn't even look at the price match, he just punched in his code. The girl was astonished at the price, she asked me where they where on the staples shelves so she could buy one. That was the last one.
Great Deal.

EXCELLENT PM!!!!
I was extremely successful, at Staples Front+Parliament. They have about 2-3 more spindles, locked in the CD/DVD-r case. I told the MOD that I just saw stock available at Yonge+Dundas and Yonge+Eglinton. He called Y+D: NO STOCK AVAILABLE and has been sold out for a while. (so don't PM to Y+D). Apparently he had also been on hold for 15 mins at Y+E, so hung up and suggested I call them myself and then call him over. I then used the courtesy phone to call Y+E, where they had 6-7 units in stock!! Really easy PM, except for the "stock must exist" rule was pretty heavily enforced.
~$9.50 for 100 maxell cd's! score! the two clerks were also amazed... and one of them asked me, "just one?"
PM THIS NOW!!

i WAS goin to go to staples 2day to do a PM, but i foned all FIVE (5) of my local FS stores and NONE of'em have stock... so i figured that if i went to staples and if they actually *phoned* to check stock (and they USUALLY do) they'd LIKELY reject my PM request anyways... so i didn't go...
i'll try again tom, IF my local FS has stock....

so how did it work out to $8.51. wouldnt they only give it to you for 50% the cost of $29?
no, 50% of the price difference... $72-30 (or w/e, approximate prices) = $42
$42/2 = $21
They'll sell it to you for $30 (FS price), MINUS that price diff (up to $25), which is $21.
So, 30-21 =~$8.51
read up on your PM 101!!!

u need to HIGHLIGHT the word "difference"....
its 150% of the DIFFERENCE
2 ways (both work out same price):
1) (staples price) - (competitor's price) = difference
take staples price MINUS (difference X 1.5) = PMed price...
2) (staples price) - (competitor's price) = difference
take competitors price MINUS (difference * 0.5) = PMed price...
that should clear up stuff... :D

BTW, what's up with noobs these days... they seem to always ask BEFORE they search for it.... as there is always a possibility that the answer they're lookin for is ALREADY somewhere on RFD....!
BTW... staples PM policy can ALSO be found on the staples website... they even give u an example to show u HOW to apply it!
here u go, noobs:
staples PM policy (http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Static/static_pages.asp?pagename=help_policy_pricematch)
a suggestion to the MODs... maybe there should be a sticky on SOME forum section that talks about the PM policy so noobs don't come around askin on every single thread!.....
no offense to noobs, but sometimes it DOES get a lil frustrating....
happy PMing!

If it wasn't for this, I wouldn't of gone to the FS site, where I also found a router which i decided not to get and ignore the PM. Later i also went to the <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=150 target=_blank>tigerdirect</a> site and found a netgear i was also gonna PM at staples (but i was told they dont PM <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=150 target=_blank>tigerdirect</a>) so I sent back to FS and printed the router. Next, i remember that my mom bought an xD card at BB and I decided to hunt around for that, turns out that CompuSmart (which is across the road from the staples im gonna go to - heartland/mississauga) has the xD for 55.99. Staples (According to staples.ca) charges nearly $150 for the xD which at BB is about $95, Blacks it is 89, <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=126 target=_blank>RadioShack</a> it is 90. $$$ if this is correct. Get 2 packs of the CD-Rs for less than 10 bucks (mayb sell 1 pack on <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>ebay</a>), get 2 of the routers for $10 each after mail-in rebate (D-link DI-524), get my moms xD for $10 and mayb buy a second for <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>ebay</a>. Lets see: if i get 2 of everything: $60, Sell CD-R for $25 (~$16 profit, after <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>ebay</a> fees), Sell router for $50 (~$15 profit, after <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>ebay</a> fees), and sell xD for $30 (~$12 profit, after <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>ebay</a> fees. That means that I pay (net) ~$17 for my stuff, after all <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>ebay</a> fee and everything, cool deal. I'm gonna get ~$320 worth of stuff for ~$17. Sounds good!

Just picked up a 100 pack of the Maxell's at the North London Staples. They had to check that it wasn't a doorcrasher and was available next door at Future Shop. They gave me the discounted price plus 50% of the difference. While I was waiting at the cash register, I watched them pull the remaining 100 packs off the shelf and put them in storage, and they also called the other two Staples stores in London to tell them to pull their stock off the shelves.

I picked up a stack at FutureShop. Was the last stack there. Went over to Staples and PM'd it. The manager stared at the receipt for 10 minutes, trying to make sure that it was the same product. Got the one from FS out, he saw it was the same, and got the PM.
$8.51 + taxes = $9.79
Wanted to stick around to see if they hid the rest, but was in a bit of a rush.

Hey guys!
Noobie here. I just found out about this place a couple of days ago and boy am I glad! Anyway, after reading this thread, I went to the Argentia & Winston Churchill Staples. Took a web printout of the deal (0 in stock online but 4 FS nearby all showing stock) with me and spoke to the manager about a PM. He is like we got a call from Head office that there are 8 things that they are not PMing with FS or BB because apparently Head Office called and checked some FS and BB stores and they dont have the items in stock at the stores. Take that for what its worth. I then head over to the Heartland FS and check if they are really out of stock of the CD-Rs and they really are. Walk over next door to Staples and give it a shot and try to get a PM done. I'm hoping they will without verifying over the phone or by walking over. Take a spindle to the cash and a noobie cashier punches in $29.99 and is about to go ahead with the PM but hesistates and asks another cashier next to her. Well, she tells the new cashier that they always call and verify and blah blah. Now they move me to Customer Service and about three employees get involved trying to decide whether to walk next door or call. After standing there for about 10 mins, hoping that they dont walk over next door and just believe my printout, they come and tell me that its out of stock next door and thats the only FS they PM with. I called all nearest FS but they all are out of stock. Guess I'll wait and see if any FS get stock and hope Staples keeps their stock out for sale and at the same price.

oos online is irrelevant if b&m has stock. I'm thinking the best strategy is just to BUY from fs, and show receipts to the store to do the PM, then return. as for the "FS next door", just say that the FS (with stock) is the one near your house or something. always call the FS yourself, then call the manager over! GOOD LUCK, this isn't impossible, you just have to find a manager who won't give you the runaround. IF THERE IS STOCK, THEY MUST PM.

Another way to PM is to print out the FS web listing with any of the local stores... showing stock at them and then go to Staples. Just did that for 2 spindles and had no problems.

I tried that but two Staples' didn't allow it. They are saying that the FS store has to have it in stock in store for them to PM. One Staple's said they would only PM the store next door! >:(

I just tried it and got refused because it is a boxing week special. The manager was half way through ringing them in when some underling came up and said the other manager had just refused one earlier due to it being in the FS boxing week flyer. He then went back into the back room and came out with the original boxing week flyer and showed me the ad.

that's ********. You know, I thought about this one for a bit. If it's LIMITED QUANTITY, then sure, fine, I can accept the no PM. I mean, FS might offer like ONE spindle at $0.99 or something, and Staples shouldn't have to PM it. There's STOCK, though. I mean, their refusal is like saying "Oh, they're having a sale, we only PM their regular prices". Retailers have sales ALL THE TIME. So what if the price goes up after BWeek -- it's a TEMPORARY SALE which isn't a "doorcrasher" type deal. It's like if Staples didn't PM a "back to school" sale from Office Depot or something. Gahhh. I hate these incompetent Staples people.

I was dealing with a cashier who was talking to a manager in the back room when a geeky guy on the floor took over. He asked if it was a boxing day special and I said no because I was not aware it was. He said he would have to check stock and I said I already confirmed by phone they have 20 but go ahead. He said they don't answer the phone there sometimes so I am going to check stock on the web. He checks and it is in stock. Now he says I have to check by phone.
There is a phone right there but he goes in the back room. Comes out a few minutes later and says FS has no stock. I say impossible, I just checked and they have 20. He says are you calling me a liar. I say I could say the same thing but when I called the guy, named Brad, checked the web id by computer and confirmed he had 20 but they were not on the shelf. They must be in the back room but I have them. Your guy probably just checked the shelf. Lets call it a misunderstanding and call again.
No, I am not calling again I have already comfirmed they have no stock he says. Do you want to speak to my manager? Yes I say. she comes out and tells me it is a boxing day special. Its on the front page of the flyer. I say really ? If thats true just show me the flyer and I will be on my way. They can't find a flyer and say it was on the web as BD special. I say show me and they can't. They wont let me use their phone to phone FS but do call on their cell or pretend to. They say they cant get an answer so thats it no pricematch. Never had a problem at this store before but never had this manager and her crony before either. Took their names and phoned head office. We will see what happens. Don't care about the disks, have lots but dont like being lied to and their rudeness was unforgivable.

They don't. I think he was hoping there was no stock on the web so he could avoid the phone call. Stock online was zero and at one point he tried to say that meant there was none anywhere. Thats BS I said. I have bought locally lots of times when the stock online says Zero besides the in store stock shows green here which means in-stock.

Just got mine for $8.45. Luckily they had a 100 pack tucked away behind the cashier. Time to price match. The assist. mgr.? was called to the front. She looked at the 100 pack.... then at me.... then the word "no" came out of her mouth..
Bottom line .... I got the deal in the end however the experience was far from pleasurable. I wasn't looking to "steal" anything. I just wanted them to back up their posted promise.
I'm not going to let this stop here. Between my family and I we've spent our fair share at Staples (at full price). I shouldn't have to fight to have them adhere to their policy. It's marketing at it's worst.

FYI, them claiming the local FS they called being "OOS" in store is a totally legit refusal of a PM..... if local competitor doesn't have stock, then they CAN (and usually do) refuse a PM request....
BUT, if the refuse u claiming that FS has a boxing day special.... well then thats an "excuse".... and BS too... these cdrs are a regular boxing WEEK special just like any other "week special price" FS offers weekly, so they *should* give u the PM.... b/c its totally legit....

I won't bother to go into ALL of the details however here are a few.
If she made a negative statement, and there were many, I had a factual comeback.
"It's listed as a door crasher in the flyer". I'm sorry but that's not true.
"I went to the store and they had a door crasher sign on their display." - But it's not listed in their flyer as a doorcrasher.
"I just called and they're out of stock" - Strange... I called 15 minutes ago and they had a few left.
"Come back here and you can ask them yourself" - "... you're out of stock but you might have some coming in tonight? Are you sure you don't have any on the shelf. What? ... you just found one tucked away under the counter?? Hold on, someone wants to speak with you.
I suppose it helped that I was old enough to be her father plus I remained composed yet a tad frustrated as to why they were putting me, a customer, on the defensive.
Sure they lost a few dollars on the deal, however it can take much more than that, in paid advertising, to lure a prospective customer. If they don't mean what they say then they shouldn't say it. Lip service is not a positive marketing strategy.

I had even called 3 times and spoke with different people to make sure that it was $109 at staples. oh well, i guess that i still got a 100% guarantee! gonna try it with the memorex 50 spindle now on sale at FS or the hp 50 spindle at BB.
I also got an ink cartridge which took my purchase over $100 subtotal so i got the boxing week promo - $10 gift card!

Can someone explain how this is a dead deal?
The sale at FS ended on the 30th.
I tried to PM this tonight at the Stoney Creek location and was denied.
I brought a print out in showing stock in 4 Hamilton area stores including one right across the street. First the cashier disapeared for about 10 minutes while she went to make sure there was stock, she was going to call then her manager told her to check online. This is redundant since she had the same print out in her hand.
So she comes back and says since there is no stock online they can't accept it. I say no it's in stock in the store as it says. She leaves again comes back and says it's an online only deal, again I have to tell her that it's not true and that it's in FS's flyer.
She then goes and attempts calling FS, after about another 10 minutes she returns and says that FS kept hanging up on her so she can't confirm the stock. At this point already more then a half hour into this, I wasn't getting anywhere with her so I gave up.
It's not such a big deal that I didn't get the spindle, but I just hate being lied to right to my face. It's discusting how the employee's will do anything to weasel out of a PM, what a way to do business.

That sucks man. One of the stores here in Halifax has a manager like that too. Does whatever he can to deny a PM. He even looks like a total prick too. I think he's on to me and my buddy though because when we were there on Wed to buy something not on PM he followed us and kept an eye on us and made a point of getting involved in my transaction with a cashier. Print off a copy of their PM policy, http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Static/static_pages.asp?pagename=help_policy_pricematch , and take it with you. Then you have a better chance of getting them to cave.
