[ripped from HowardForums, thanks didouche]
Fido's having a boxing day sale at their retail locations. Supposed to be specials on a bunch of phones and accessories. Highlights include:
$0 - Siemens S55 (color screen triband)
$100 - Sony Ericsson P800 (smartphone, sweet deal)
$25 - Sony Ericsson T616 (color screen, bluetooth, 850mhz!)
$75 - Nokia 7210 (color screen, bluetooth)
All of these prices are for new activation / 2yr contract only. I'm not sure if existing month-to-month subscribers can sign contracts to get these deals. There will probably be more deals in store so it's worth checking this out

BTW, the Nokia 7210 doesn't have bluetooth at all. For connectivity to PC or another mobile, it uses Infrared.

Not bad for the S55, otherwise, somewhat lacking

It's real.. glad I'm not working tomorrow.
I don't think each store has a lot of stock for the p800 though, most stores only have 1. plus the A56, S55, 7210, and a few other models are refurbished phones that are re-boxed.

Handsets purchased on-line can only be activated upon receipt. The credit for activating a monthly airtime package will be applied to your second monthly invoice. However, if you’d like to take advantage of the applicable credit right away, please call 1 888 481-FIDO (3436), select option 2 and enter promotional code 405 to buy and activate a handset.
In other words if you want to get the discount in advance you need to call them; otherwise you will get your discount credited on your second bill.

Does anybody know if the P800 is still on sale/available?
I tried both of the FIDO outlets here in London; one (an actual store) sold out, and the other (a booth) did not even receive any.
Also, can anyone confirm that these phones are new products? I heard from one FIDO guy that they were refurbs - not sure if he knew what he was talking about, though.
If anyone knows of any FIDO locations in the GTA with these phones still in stock, please let me know! Otherwise, I'm going to try calling in to FIDO to order one (though I'm not sure if they'll charge for shipping, etc.)
Thanks, guys!

The P800 is tempting for sure! But it has already been discontinued from major U.S. service providers.
This thing was approved by FCC on 15 October 2002, so it should be around two years old.
I hope Fido has flashed it with the newest OS...
Will this work as a PDA even after one discontinues service with Fido?

Most Fido store in Greater vancouver doesn't have any stock when I called this morning. Oakridge and Lougheed had one, but it was gone within an hour.
and Since that the CS at the call center will not honor this discount on phone. This is pretty much dead in Greater Vancouver
It seems that the P800 discount is just a big scum which waste my precious shopping time.

It doesn't come with a $50 prepaid card. Actually no Fido phone will come with any prepaid card. I talked to fido.ca CSR this morning. When you activate the phone prepaid, they will give $50 airtime credit to your account right away. You have to refill at the end of 60 days or switch to monthly plan with no charge. Since this phone is discontinous at Fido, they won't give you any credit if you activate for a monthly plan. The best way to go is to activate as prepaid first.
My previous post about credit is not that clear, it should be:
Prepaid: $50 airtime credit valid 60 days
referral credit: you need a Fido user to refer you, you will get $20 credit and he/she will get another $20 credit if you stay for 3 months.
You get $70 credit, your friend gets $20 credit and you only need to pay $59.99 + tax.

So why would they give you $50 credit on prepay when they don't on a monthly plan?
Isn't it to their advantage that you go monthly over pay as you go?

I also called them afterwards, and they did confirm it.
Here's another question someone might know the answer to.
If I already have a Fido Prepay and go buy a new one, can I activate the new one to get the $50 credit, then either transfer to the credit to my other account or change the phone number on this new sim to be my old number?
Bottom line, I wish to keep the first number but take advantage of the $50 activation credit.
Funny thing, I called Fido CSR twice, one says no problem, another says the system cannot do it. Wonder who's correct?

Even you have two phones under your name, You can't transfer amount from one prepaid account to another prepaid account. You can only transfer amount between postpaid accounts.
You can refer yourself when you activate your new phone. You old account will get $20 credit and your new account will also get $20 referral credit plus $50 airtime credit good for 2 months.
If you want to keep the old phone number, you have to keep two accounts at the same time. After 3 months, you can cancel your new account.
Your old sim card has your old phone number. If you put the old sim card in your new phone, then your new phone will have your old phone number.

Typical Fido CSRs, poorly trained and poorly informed. Dealing with them is no fun. They never know what promotions their company has.
When you call Fido, try to choose activation option. You have to key in the promotion code first. So I think that in this way you will get the $15 GC. I haven't got the $15 GC since the phone which I wanted was sold out at fido.ca. I bought it from Fido store and they won't allow me to use the promotional code, but they gave me the $15 accessory kit for free. However, they forgot to give me the free gaming gift ($45 value) and I had to go back the next day and asked for it.
The $15 GC can only be used at fido.ca, not good in Fido stores and FS.

I did manage to get $15 airtime credit as a replacement for the $15 GC ... I actually bought the phone from Futureshop.. $50 airtime + $15 credit + $20 referral.. so I got $85 credit in total... :cheesygri
But this is after 3 calls to CSRs and 2 emails to Fido web support... and also it depends on your luck... that's a long story... I ordered another z200 phone for $60 from Bestbuy and I am not sure whether I will still fight for the $15 credit.. it's not worth the effort.

You are lucky. The promotional code of the $15 GC is only good for online, not valid in stores if you read the fine print carefully. Fido CSRs often give you something that they should not give you. It is no fun to deal with CSRs, but sometimes you do love them as they give you something extra.

I I ordered another z200 phone for $60 from Bestbuy and I am not sure whether I will still fight for the $15 credit.. it's not worth the effort.
How did you get the z200 from Bestbuy? I thought they're OOS and no longer on the website.

You are lucky. The promotional code of the $15 GC is only good for online, not valid in stores if you read the fine print carefully. Fido CSRs often give you something that they should not give you. It is no fun to deal with CSRs, but sometimes you do love them as they give you something extra.
I totally agree with you :cheesygri That's why I said it depends on you luck

I ordered while z200 was still on the website...
Today I got this damn OOS letter... don't know how long I have to wait to actually get it... :(
