Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how I could set up a network between two apartments (a brick wall separates them). I have a DSL connection in one apartment with a wireless G router. Is it possible to pick up the signal with some kind of access point in the other apartment? Would I then be able to continue "wired" connections in the other apartment?

Thanks for the help!

One single wall? If you want to buy an access point and continue the wireless over there. sure. otherwise just get a couple wifi adapters. B's are cheap. Not sure what the big deal is about 802.11g.. I've had b for a couple years, and I don't see a diff... I'll make the switch when internet goes over 10mb. :)

Just make sure to setup the router as close as you can to the brick wall.

Just make sure to setup the router as close as you can to the brick wall. Not necessarily. The important thing is the distance the wireless signal has to travel through the wall. Close to the wall is fine if your friend's wireless adapter is directly opposite, not so good if it is close to the wall but some distance laterally away.
2. Be aware of the direct line between Access Points, Residential Gateways, and Computers - A wall that is 1.5 feet thick, at a 45 degree angle, appears to be almost 3 feet thick. At a 2-degree angle it looks over 42 feet thick! Try to make sure that the Access Point and Adapters are positioned so that the signal will travel straight through a wall or ceiling for better reception.Taken from D-Link FAQ: What variables may cause my wireless product not to recieve signals at the maximum advertised distance? I would just drill through the wall and use a wired connection.

Wireless would be the best way, but you could always just run the wire outside and back in through the windows or something. Or perhaps through the hot water heating?

I want to set up the wireless with my neighbour 3 apartments distance (same floor same side) 70 feet distance but 4 concrete rebar re-enforced walls. I've got an SMC 'B' wireless router and the SMC 'B' USB wireless.

I figure that if it doesn't connect, I would put an extension out the window in a ziplock bag.

here's a link that may be useful.

Why don't u install your wireless adapter on their PC, and see if they get the signal. Then you'll know for sure.
