The police should know who is under contract for this... depending on the area.
I suspect.. once seen that you have a tire problem, you may get lucky and they will have it towed to the closest garage station...

Call the RCMP responsible for the area, and they should know.

Do not call 911,its for EMERGENCIES. I can just imagine people having real emergencies and not getting thru cause people want to know if starbucks is open.
Every city has a non-emergency line you can call, look it up in the whitepages in the blue section. You can also try a random towing comp. and ask if they have (or can tell you who has) jurisdiction there.

thats nice to know.....btw the post was for coeternity, who stated that he was already home. Also you could've called 411 in YOUR situation, to get the non-emergency line.
Cheers :D

Agreed. 911 is for emergencies only, not information. Any local police station can tell you. Ask them if they know if your car was stolen/towed. When mine was towed they gave me directions to the impound yard.
Get it out fast, they charge by the hour for storing it there.

Disagreed. 911 lady said its the right place to call since car could be either stolen and towed.

I really must ask this for it seems so obvious. Why didn't you change the tyre immediately as you got the flat seeing that you have a spare. Initially i thought you left the car because you did not have a spare. Most people would change their tyres or call for help immediately. why didn't you. I understand if you are a girl you may not know how but you just said you are going back and you may change the tyre. Just curious as there may be a twist to this story we are missing. :cheesygri

Man that sucks. Hope you get your car back and remember to pack that spare next time or if your car is very old take out a CAA membership. Hope it works out fine. ;)

coeternity, since you dont have one, instead of the regular spare tire, you can get a cheap rim and a used tire for about $40-50.

Bottom line you are tieing up a line that could be used for more important situations. Now there are more than one line, but say a freak accident happens on the freeway, how many people are calling?
You said that you knew your car was towed. Prob b/c you parked in the wrong spot or the meter ran out, you do that and chances are your car got towed. Also a stolen car is not an emergency, it is different if you see someone breaking in or driving off.

911 isn't the right place to report a stolen car.

Agreed. My bad. Did some research and T.O. 5O says to call 416-808-2222 for non-emergency bniz.
I guess the 911 lady didnt know her shiets.
interestingly: all insurance companies recommend calling 911 immediately! In case your vehicle is stolen, the loss can be reported at once to the Police at 911 from http://www.aighawaii.com/advice_autotips.asp
